Admit it, Brianna...you're still holding a grudge against your parents for naming you after a French cheese. :)

If you want a good chuckle, try googling for "French Military Victories" and hit "I'm feeling lucky".

Els, you have no idea how right you really are! I do indeed have a French first name and I've had a love/hate relationship with it all my life. Mostly hate, though. I was born in 1964 when the popular names were Debbie, Mindy, Linda, Melissa...how I ended up with the atrocity they hung on me...oh, wait, I do know. It is, like all truly hideous names, a family name. Why do families do this to innocent babies? It's like handing down a curse!

What, exactly, is wrong with Brianna as a name?

It's the feminine equivilant to MY name and *I* like my name. It's hard to twist into anything silly, weird or embarrassing and it's not corruptible into a female name without modification like, say, Tony is. No offense UT but merely changing the last letter to an I you get a female name that sounds exactly the same when spoken aloud. There are many such names and I'm glad I got THIS one.

Although, had I held on two more days I'd have been named Ray III.

Brian

My name isn't really Brianna. It's my wanna-be name. My real name is --well, let's just never speak of it again.

i gave birth to two wonderful boys. They have pretty good names. If I'd had a girl she would have been Brianna

wolf 07-19-2005 10:38 AM

Brianna isn't her real name.

I know her dark secret.

Muahahahahaha.

lookout123 07-19-2005 11:49 AM

huh. i don't think i even know this deep dark secret. and... HEY! aren't you supposed to be getting a piece right now? why are you talking to us?

Trilby 07-19-2005 07:41 PM

I got my piece earlier---9:30ish, and thanks for asking!

Wolf--I trust you to be bribe-able.

I don't care *what* your name is. Your name isn't you, nor vice-versa.

My grandmother was named Ethel. I work with a woman named Gladys. I know lots of people who have strange names, names which aren't currently fadish or popular.

I also run around with people who adopt completely different names. In fact, I don't even know some of their real names, and it has become second nature to me to call some people "Drake" or "Aislinn Firehawk", and even more odd than that.

I think people should be called what they wish, but by no means should anyone be ashamed of their given name. Sometimes when your folks have gone, that's all your left with that they gave you.
