Hummer "Sport Utility Truck"

My projection is that the retail sales for this item will be in the single digits and that it will come to be considered the Edsel of the 2000s.

Whenever I see a guy driving a Hummer, I think of this:

jinx 06-22-2004 11:12 AM

Oh come on! Every drug dealer and pro athlete on your block will have one.

I wish. The people on my block are either clients or fans :)

I think that your graph is off a bit, beestie.....I paid 16,500 for my suv, and if it's accurate, i've been shorted an undisclosed amount of inches!

http://www.seriouswheels.com/2005-Hu...A-1024x768.htm

is that the one you mean, UT? with the little useless pickup truck bed on the back? this is just a chevy avalanche with a bigger bulkier body dropped on it. cadillac Escalade, whatever.....stupid looking, and an affront to the hummer name, IMO. The REAL hummers had 45 degree axles, and actual off road capability. these things are for dumbasses that want to be like Ahnold....

Yeah, that's what I would have said about the stretch Hummer limousine if you'd asked me.

elSicomoro 06-22-2004 11:45 AM

I was reading an article on MSNBC the other day that noted the sharp decline in demand for the H2 (and SUVs as a whole). I think it's mainly due to the rise in gas prices and not because of true lack of demand.

Imagine if gas prices had risen with inflation...would we have even had an SUV boom?

glatt 06-22-2004 12:32 PM

What's the saying? Something like "there's a sucker born every minute" or was it "no one ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

These Hummer things you are talking about sound like they will sell just fine. I will mock the owners as I drive past them in my Geo Prizm while they stop for more gas at the corner filling station.

Troubleshooter 06-22-2004 12:37 PM

I think that the hummer is the single best icon of the downside of the american attitude.

Happy Monkey 06-22-2004 12:40 PM

How about stretch Hummer limos? I saw one of those drop off some kids at my sister's high school graduation. Gah.

hot_pastrami 06-22-2004 01:10 PM

H2's are the embodiment of excess and waste. I have no problem with someone owning a gas guzzling truck if they need it to pull a trailer or something, but the overpaid and undersmart drive these 10-12 MPG monstrocities as daily drivers. What they don't realize is that they're pissing in their own pool by driving the kids to soccer practice in one of these over-size, pullution-shitting poser vehicles.

Here's hoping that the Toad is right on the money.

FU, H2

jaguar 06-24-2004 09:52 AM

Is it possible for the public to buy a military class hummer? I know a guy in the UK who picked one up in Iraq which had been abandoned in a parking lot, badly damamged. he paid to get it repaired and got it shipped home.

Undertoad 06-24-2004 10:02 AM

Yeah, the public can buy H1s which are the original, for over $100,000, or H2s which are $50,000 Chevy Suburbans. The Hummer SUT looks like an H2 with the back cut out.

I believe the H2 has the worst reliability ratings of any US consumer-class vehicle.

lumberjim 06-24-2004 10:24 AM

AND, they stole the grille design from jeep. bastards

jaguar 06-24-2004 10:30 AM

Are the H1s the real deal though? Air pumps that can keep punctured tires up and all that jazz? Gunner roof access? Armour plating?

Undertoad 06-24-2004 01:33 PM

I dunno!

glatt 06-24-2004 02:10 PM

I don't think so.

elSicomoro 06-24-2004 08:35 PM

I like the H2 (though not the SUT).

Sue me.

That's OK, unless you also like the Honda Element, Chevy Avalanche (slash-Cadillac-Escalade), Subaru Baja (the El Camino is BACK, baby!), or Pontiac Aztek... in which case you're too far gone to be saved, I'm afraid.

A classic.

elSicomoro 06-24-2004 09:02 PM

I like the Avalanche, but don't care for the rest. The Aztek would kick ass if they redid that ugly-ass back end.

zippyt 06-24-2004 10:46 PM

Jag , i saw a deal on e-bay motors a while bace where you could buy ex millatary hummers for under $10k , thou they didn't have seats , tires , or tops . oh and they were in califorina . If i could have raised some cash i found a guy who's dad ownes a trucking company , buy 3-4 of these fix up and sell 2 of them and it would have paid for the other 2 .
I know a guy that got a ex millatary hummer , fixed it up and sold it , the hardest part was getting it painted , the body is aluminum so you can't sand blast it ( it would make holes in the body pannels ) , oh and the tires were WAY expencive !!!!!

jaguar 07-08-2004 03:42 PM

10k? Fucking peanuts for a decent vehicle. What do you mean by 'tops', as in the entire roof is missing? That'd be a bitch but still, including restoration that'd still be very interesting to me. Shipping is painful but not that awful.

zippyt 07-08-2004 10:29 PM

yeppers the entire top was missing , look at e-bay motors , there is generly a few decent hummers there

jaguar 07-09-2004 04:36 AM

Found a few bits, lots of tires, couple of civvy ones but no ex military parts larder than a hood. Found two that had the full tire inflation system and all, both on the shortlist for now. I'll keep looking around, it's got my interest, I've been looking at landies of a similar vintage, it's for a little project in the middle of fucking nowhere in aus so I need something reliable.

zippyt 07-09-2004 09:18 PM

Jag check these out , there are a few links to AUS sites ,

zippyt 07-09-2004 09:21 PM
