Carruthers,

There's a seldom used feature of the Cellar that may help you until you can get your post preview fully working again. I have a Social Group under my sockpuppet name UCB4U. As UCB4U, I'm sending you an invitation to join the Group. When you accept the invitation I'll activate it and you'll be able to post there. I've already created a thread for you: https://cellar.org/group.php?do=disc...iscussionid=14

You can copy what you have in your preview box and post it in that thread to see it without littering the forums. When you're done editing, you can copy it and post it in the forums and then delete it in the Social Group thread as you wish.

Try it. If it works for you, you're welcome to use it indefinitely. If you prefer, you can also create your own Social Group for that purpose.

If you're not happy with how a post came out you can always delete it.

Many thanks. That'll be a handy addition to the armoury!

Thank you, Gentlemen. :thumb:

Yeah, no.

Everyone who's logged-in will see the deletions. That's distracting if done on a regular basis which is why I suggested the Social Groups route.

XoB, former moderator, advocating litterbugs. :headshake

xoxoxoBruce 11-03-2018 04:30 PM

See, they don't take that much room and only moderators can read them.

sexobon 11-03-2018 04:35 PM

They're eyesores. The tourists will be flocking away in droves.

BTW, you shouldn't have said all those nasty things about tw in that post you deleted.

xoxoxoBruce 11-03-2018 04:50 PM

No, they show the poster is thoughtful, trying to be clear, and open to change.

sexobon 11-03-2018 04:58 PM

That's editing, not deleting.

I took a screen shot of that post before you deleted it. I can refrain from showing it...for a price; or, I can show it to an interested party who was the subject of that post...for a price.

Why should people click on the FAQ and register links "above" (toolbar) when the links are in the Welcome paragraph?

Is there a prize involved? Inquiring minds want to know.

xoxoxoBruce 12-23-2018 01:38 AM

Think of how rich and/or famous you could be if you put all that free time to productive endeavors. :haha:

sexobon 12-23-2018 08:52 AM

Looking for someone else to do IOTD huh?

Ah man!!

sexobon 02-16-2019 02:36 PM

Where's Sheriff Bart? This is his big chance to say "Howdy stranger."

Gravdigr 11-22-2019 04:09 PM

Man. My posts are taking forever and a day to show up in the thread.

Undertoad 11-22-2019 05:31 PM

Let me see

It was probably a temporary thing - there's no delay right now, but sometimes we do get hit with a search engine spider trying to crawl the entire site, that slows us down.

Gravdigr 11-22-2019 09:20 PM

Fine now.

Interested in adding some holiday color to the tagline box?

You could replace this Attachment 69170 with this Attachment 69171.

It's hard to find anything that shows up well at that size. After several flops with other nice looking (regularly sized) animated GIFs, I cropped and reduced this one. It isn't half bad. I left it at the original speed; but, I can change the speed if desired. Red, green and blue happen to be my faves in light strings.

Undertoad 11-28-2019 10:55 PM

It is nice. Shall we put it to a vote or just get a few general yay-or-nay posts?

Undertoad 11-28-2019 10:57 PM

I should add, I don't know if I can change the icon out in JUST the tagline... will have to check on that....

Undertoad 11-28-2019 11:00 PM

I can. (It's been about a decade since I last touched that bit.)

sexobon 11-28-2019 11:08 PM

If it can be done, a few opinions will do to see if there's any interest. Even if there initially is, it can still be changed back if someone later says bah, humbug.

Undertoad 11-28-2019 11:23 PM

Quite true.

Griff 11-29-2019 07:19 AM

I have some nice coloured lights somewhere if I can find them we used to use years ago on this VBB site im a co-admin on..... Would be nice putting those here!

xoxoxoBruce 11-30-2019 12:35 AM

It's your site do what you want.

Gravdigr 11-30-2019 04:26 PM

Dude's 'lights' are prolly candles.

sexobon 11-30-2019 04:53 PM

But even if his candles burned out long ago, his legend never did. That's why he's An Awesome Dude.

One man's opinion.

Well, two, counting you.

sexobon 11-30-2019 06:43 PM

He recently started five threads in a row in a single forum. Mind you, he didn't just reply to five threads in a row...he started them. Your inner child must find that awesome. Perhaps now we're up to Two And A Half Men. :D

Slim pickin's for a New Year's Cellar tag line gif. Even "2020" becomes too small to be readily legible, let alone "Happy New Year." So, I looked for a flashing "20" gif that worked well; but, nowhere to be found. I ended up cropping a flashing "2020" down to 2 digits and resizing. It gets the message across: Attachment 69434; but, we can always stay with the holiday lights thru New Year's Day.

Undertoad 12-30-2019 02:00 PM

It looks a bit confusing in place, but maybe that's a plus for us

sexobon 12-30-2019 02:07 PM

I didn't want to distract from the tag line by exceeding the original 15x15 gif pixel size.

ETA: Yeah, it could be confusing with this being The Cellar's 30th year. Oh well, it's just for a few days.

I just found a B&W "2020" gif that was uploaded only 3 days ago. I cropped and reduced it to 15 pixels square. It's not quite as legible; but, might be less confusing. FWIW: Attachment 69445 Up to you.

Undertoad 12-31-2019 04:09 PM

done and done, thank you sir

Undertoad 01-05-2020 01:38 PM

Well now I don't want to go back to that original folder icon. Got anything for January?

sexobon 01-05-2020 03:10 PM

Not right off hand. We'll have to go back to the folder for now. I'll keep an eye out for something relevant, like The Cellar's 30th. Maybe I'll come across an extraordinary animation. B&W appears to suit the tag line best. We'll see what's out there.

Something understated that plays off the highlighted "established 1990" in the banner and gives everyone a glimpse of the year they joined. The folder icon is 15x15. This is necessarily wider. One is 15px in height, the other 18px which I find easier on the eyes (it keeps the numbers about the same size, despite the yellow border, as the text in the tag line box). Maybe save it for a rainy day:
