I'm gonna start calling LJ "Jimmylegs" after a character in a story that that guy who wrote Moby Dick wrote.

Trilby 09-25-2007 03:26 PM

Herman Melville--that's the guy. Whale of a guy.

Are you being all Grammar/Literature nazi on my ass Mr. SteveDallas?
Coz if you are...

Anyhoo---it WAS Melville who wrote that. The Dick story, I mean. Plus the other one with Jimmylegs in it--Billy Budd I thunk it was called.

theotherguy 09-25-2007 04:00 PM

Hey, lj writes about cocks. He must be on the brink of greatness.

Trilby 09-25-2007 04:17 PM

Would I do that? Huh?
(It's a quote from Bartleby the Scrivener, a Melville story.)

I've heard it both ways (with and without the final T pronounced). FWIW there is some evidence (including second-hand reports of how Puccini himself said it) that that last letter is silent. My guess is, knowing opera fans, you're likely to start an argument either way.

:smack:

Of course! I know Bartleby! He died in prison!

Re: the hope of starting an Opera Fight--I accept the ( french accent ) challange!

I think the movie shoul;d be about superheroes with enormous bladders who go around putting out forest fires and saving kittens from the bottoms of dried out wells.
