June 20th, 2019: Dukhas

Alexander Khimushin grew up in the cold far north of Eurasia.
Then he traveled the world photographing and learning the customs of remote pockets of isolate groups.
With the expanded world population most of these pockets are in South America or Eurasia.
Most of the photographs were what I expected but this one really grabbed me. She emanates good vibrations.

Dukha Woman; Darkhad Valley, Khovsgol, Northern Mongolia

Quote:

The Dukha people live in one of the most remote and inaccessible Mongolian taiga forests bordering the Tyva Republic in Siberia. They are the only Indigenous reindeer herders of Mongolia. Ulzii Sandag, 80, is one of only 282 Dukha people. If we count her 14 children, more than 60 grandchildren and a large number of great-grandchildren, the total number of which she could not recall, it can be said that Ulzii is the progenitor of more than half of the Dukha people. In Ulzii’s opinion, the most important trait of a human character is humanity, "I wish all people of the world to live in peace and harmony!"

I read once that the only animal (may have said mammal) native to Mongolia is the Mongolian Wild Ass.

I've never encountered a Mongolian Wild Ass before...

...but, I've partied like one a time or two.

This is exactly why I wear sunscreen! She and Robert Redford are of a different opinion.

Do you think wrinkles will matter when you're 80?

I don't care how wrinkly I am @ 80.

I'll have been in the ground for decades.
