ƒucking "controller" is the real name of a position? There's your problem.

We've got one of those. She's the reason it takes ~60 days to get reimbursed for expenses (when it should be < 30). Because of "accounting" it makes the company look better if they hold onto money longer.

Fucking pay on time. Don't play games with your employees or vendors.

Nirvana 08-03-2013 12:47 AM

I am supposed to pick up a puppy in Denver in Sept. Before I paid the deposit the lady in Grand Junction. CO agreed to bring the puppy to Denver. Flights from Chicago to Denver are $200 round trip. Flights from Chicago to Grand junction are $500. I am closer to South Bend IN and flights from there to Denver are less than $200. It will cost an extra $150 to bring the puppy in cabin. Shipping the puppy alone including a new crate is about $350 she does not want to ship but offered before.

Why am I pissed you ask? [maybe you didn't ask] Now she wants me to come to Grand Junction and I am not willing to fork out more money than the puppy cost to pick him up. Especially since she was supposed to bring him to Denver. That was the arrangement pre deposit..:mad2: I think I just want my deposit back.

Old Bunyip 08-03-2013 04:31 AM

Nirvana (hello)
You had a verbal contract with the pup's owner. If you remind her of that and make noises like "breach of Contract" and ask for your deposit back because SHE has cancelled said contract, she might go back to the original deal for you. If she is a registered breeder you could say you might report her to the Canine Association (whatever it is called in US).

A week ago I adopted a rescued dog from our RSPCA. She was seized from a terrible "puppy farm" and has severe neurosis. 3 years old and it will take that long again and tons of TLC to heal her. First step is to get her out from under the bed and to eat and drink. I am having to offer food and water from my fingers...she freaks out at every noise or sudden movement.

good luck with your pup arrangements.

Nirvana 08-03-2013 07:36 PM

Thanks Old B I was more pissed that she disappeared and quit talking. :)
I love this place because I can vent and I don't make situations worse by being angry and going off... We have it all worked out this am and it will be less transport cost. Its all good again:)
That was just the last straw for yesterday. It rained 2 inches my car had a f up on the way for chinese food, I got no Chinese food last nite and its Sat so I have no car. YAY! Me! [/whine]

[drink wine]

Old Bunyip 08-03-2013 09:33 PM

Oh Dear, I did not realize that my nickname would be "Old B"...an unfortunate epithet in Oz.
Can we make it "Bun" or "Yip"(I think Lola Bunny has rights to the former)?
:o

Nirvana 08-03-2013 10:53 PM

Me having cattle dogs and you being from Australia 'Yip' seems to fit for me ;)

Old Bunyip 08-04-2013 02:36 AM

My poor dog is half Red Heeler Australian cattle dog and half something with shorter legs, so she is Beagle sized. She also has some Staffy in her. Very good looking and sound physically, but the shelter people think she needs to be re-homed with another dog for company and confidence building.
For her own sake I think I will have to return her.
:(

I'm just reading this on my phone where I can't make the change, if I don't accomplish it by Monday, remind me!

Old Bunyip 08-04-2013 04:25 AM

Don't change Old Bunyip, please. It is just the abbreviated version (like they call you "UT") that I think Yip would be better than "Old Bastard"

Old Bunyip 08-04-2013 04:28 AM

P.S. Honoured to meet you Mr Undertoad. What a mighty thing you have wrought with the Cellar.

Nirvana 08-04-2013 09:35 AM

Please don't change your moniker its a fabulous bit of Australian yore. Love it! Thank goodness you clarified Old B because I was thinking Old Bitch but Old Bastard lets me know gender. :) I did not use OB that is a type of physician but its also a feminine hygiene product in the US. ;)

So the rescue let you have the dog but now they want to take her away? I would be wary of their assessment skills. Do you like the dog? I don't understand your problem I guess.

Old Bunyip 08-04-2013 06:25 PM

Actually, Nirvana, I'm more of an Old Bitch than an Old Bastard (does that help to genderize me?)

To get the dog I had a questionnaire, an interview and an inspection of my home and facilities for having a dog. They were very careful. They knew she was a problem dog and may not settle in. I was to let them know my observations. (I used to breed Dalmatians)

As a puppy farm breeder dog she was always with other dogs, ditto in the shelter. The only time she has been happy at my place was when she was playing with a visiting dog. She is just dog lonely.

I suggested to them that she might need doggy friends and they told me of their option of re-homing her with another dog. I think it would be best for her.

As you would know, a working dog needs to be kept busy, but she is too timid and another dog would help her teach her confidence.

How are things with your pup?

You can use Bun or Yip or whatever you wish. People call me Lola. :)

Nirvana 08-05-2013 10:36 AM

Dalmatians... interesting breed. Poor dog you have must not "value" human connections as much as dog connections, I understand. Its just the way it is, bad reproducers are everywhere. They don't deserve the term breeder. I hope you have a good resolution.

"My" puppy is only 2 1/2 weeks old. I have had this breed for over 25yrs, not a breeder, but I know [of] most of the breeders and pedigrees thanks to the interwebs. My last boy was fabulous and getting him went smoothly but I have had a nightmare years ago. I bought a male they sent me a female. Like what they can't tell the difference? Anyhoo I did not pay for her they threatened my life among other annoyances, but I re-homed her. They wanted me to send her back at my expense. Um no..

I found a decent breeder. Makes me a bit paranoid I don't need crazy, shy or non working. [or a female] ;) But people sometimes need to remember what they say they will do, but I am glad we worked it out.

Lamplighter 08-17-2013 11:02 AM

Our town is built around a lake, and on summer mornings there are a lot of joggers doing the "lake run".
This morning it was the lady's turn. These semi-organized events start at the town mall.

As I was driving in towards town, I met the first bevy of the runners.
...those tall, lanky, lean people with fast twitch muscles that can run forever one just one deep breath.
As I drove along I noticed the women were getting shorter, heavier, and redder in the face.
The further I drove, the more pronounced the changes.
I know I sometimes have a sick sense of humor, and the gradient started tickling me.
But there it was.

Then I came upon what turned out to be the last runner.
She was very heavy set, red of face, bent over breathing heavily
through her mouth, and obviously in distress.
I stopped to ask if she was OK, and she was not.
She agreed to a ride back to the mall to call her family.

So now it's doesn't seem quite so funny, and it bothers me that these
health-seeking runners would run off and leave someone it that sort of situation.

Griff 08-17-2013 11:28 AM

In their defense, she probably fell off the back of the pack well before she was in trouble, but she shouldn't have been exposed like that. You'd like to put the onus on the individual but sometimes folks really don't know what the are or are not capable of. Honest doctors could help the situation but some are afraid to alienate patients.

Folks really need to stick with controlled situation exercise until they're fit enough to feel their limitations and take reasonable chances. This is a worry for me at the fencing club as we're all just amateurs we don't have any physiologists among us. We could get someone with a health issue they hide or are unaware of and end up with a tragedy.

I find your gradient comment amusing. btw

Clodfobble 08-17-2013 03:42 PM

At the more-organized events, they usually have a vehicle bringing up the rear of the peloton, as it were. Sounds like this one was just barely big enough for anonymity. Hope she recovered.

monster 08-17-2013 03:51 PM

The blame lies with the "organizers" without a doubt.

Maybe she did lie about or was unaware of her poor fitness level. But they should have someone watching all parts of the course if it's an organized race, or an experienced runner bringing up the rear if it's just a workout.

A. I ordered the upper rear suspension mount bracket as part of an entire strut shock assembly last week and have been patiently awaiting its arrival. I get a message that my payment is being refunded because the seller says "The part was damaged." BS detector is redlined. More likely "Holy shit the part was underpriced by about $100. and there's no way we'll sell it to you for that, so we're gonna tell you the part is damaged."

I emailed them asking, "Exactly in what way is the part damaged? I'll take it as is since I only need it for parts." No answer from them only deepens my suspicions. I think I will fuck up their 100% positive feedback if I don't hear back from them.

Car is still up on blocks since I still can't get those frozen bolts loose, Torch, PB blaster, SeaFoam, 3 foot cheater bar... AND opening day is this saturday. FML.

B. A few weeks ago the motor on my lathe was seriously smoking like a mofo, so I blasted it with air and it seemed better. Today I was trying to do some more turning and the thing froze up. I took it apart to trouble shoot it but it's pretty much fucked. It doesn't really owe me anything; I pulled it off an old fridge 20 years ago but still. Trying to get shit made for the craft fairs and an upcoming turning job this week. FML.

I have a vintage Singer Sewing machine motor that I was going to put it into service despite needing to fuck around with the mounting system It weighs about 45 pounds and is designed for continuous use sewing upholstery. Plug it in to test if It runs.

It runs. Backwards. Fucking fuck.

It's got two pairs of wires coming out of the body that are twisted together. I thought maybe by futzing around with them I might be able to reverse the polarity of the motor. There's no indication of the motor if this is possible. I unsplice them and try running one of the two. The motor makes an impressive motor running noise but does not actually run. I decide I need to stop and research this thing. It has a clutch and a brake but I took those off. While it might be cool to have a clutch and brake on my lathe, I'm not really up for that level of fucking around with things right now.

Gonna do some research on this motor.

xoxoxoBruce 11-14-2016 05:07 PM

How do you know it's going the wrong way, is the rotation marked?

footfootfoot 11-14-2016 06:56 PM

I can see it going the wrong way, I put a temporary plug on it and ran it.

Also, I don't approve of the company it keeps. Sewing hooligans.

xoxoxoBruce 11-14-2016 07:03 PM

But how do you know which way it's supposed to go? It may be the wrong rotation for your application but what about the original application?

footfootfoot 11-15-2016 12:57 AM

Oh, It's going the correct way for its original application, the sewing machine, but wrong for the lathe. I asked an electrician friend to have a look at it to reverse the direction.

I don't understand the double wire thing.

xoxoxoBruce 11-15-2016 01:05 AM

I'm sure it has a starting circuit that drops out when it's up to speed.
All it takes is two gears to change the direction of rotation.

glatt 11-15-2016 07:12 AM

or point it the other direction

Clodfobble 11-15-2016 12:52 PM

Or just remind it that direction is a choice, and send it to motor conversion therapy.

Gravdigr 11-15-2016 02:56 PM

Maybe find a motor younger than you are?

It does, I've called an electrician friend in on the case; I'm out of my depth, here. I'd have to go searching for gears...

Yeah, and they're all like, "How long will I have to run? How many volts will you give me? I can't start because I want to hang out with my friends. I need to take a break for a half an hour.

glatt 11-16-2016 01:47 PM

The best article I've ever seen on reversing a motor.

By the dude who designed my band saw.

footfootfoot 11-16-2016 02:15 PM

I had linked to that in my original reply which got lost somehow. That guy is a mine of information. I lost a couple of hours to him the other night. I'm a bit too addled at the moment to follow everything he is saying and my motor seems atypical.

BigV 11-16-2016 09:22 PM

Why not use the belt in a figure eight configuration?

Can't take credit for the idea.

It looks very easy on the drawing, less so IRL

BigV 11-17-2016 03:00 PM

Can you skew the mounting of the motor at all to give you a little breathing room as the belt crosses itself?

What about a different belt?

Not your regular powertwist v belt, maybe round in cross section, a rubberized rope, tarred rope.... Thinking out loud here.

This is a temp solution to get you turning for this weekend's work/sales. You can get the motor rewired at your leisure later.. Or, things are different IRL.

footfootfoot 11-17-2016 03:42 PM

There is literally no room for any solution apart from a CW running motor.

Last night I figured since the first motor was more or less fucked I decided to screw with it and see if I could get it working again. apparently I put something where it wasn't supposed to be and when I plugged it in there was an impressive arc, shower of sparks, and popped breaker. It's now in the copper recycling outbox.

Still waiting on my electrician friend. In the meantime I have some other paying work to attend to and I'm also scoping Craigslist. Saw a great (most likely stolen) Baldor 3 phase, 3HP motor for $100, new in box, only about 40 min away, and another new in box, single phase 1/3 hp motor for $50, but it's about 2 hours away.

They keep popping up on CL and I can also make a trip to the recycling place and pull another one out of a fridge there.

Here are some pics of the sewing machine motor, as you can see it doesn't even bear a passing resemblance to the drawing on the rod building site.

glatt 11-17-2016 07:43 PM

What are you going to do with a 3 phase motor? Surely you don't have access to that kind of power supply in your house. Way more trouble than it's work.

footfootfoot 11-17-2016 07:59 PM

Of course not, again, I'm not being clear because I'm addled. I meant I saw it it while looking for motors and was attracted to the price and quality until I saw it was three phase, etc.

glatt 11-17-2016 08:04 PM

Ah, yes. I've fallen for the same trap numerous times. You see a wonderful motor and get all excited only to notice a few minutes later that it's 3 phase.

xoxoxoBruce 11-17-2016 08:08 PM

There is an add-on box to change single phase into three phase, but it's bullshit you don't want to get into.
Guess I'll have to look at my whole shelf of motors tomorrow.

Gravdigr 11-18-2016 01:20 PM

I just broke a tooth, clenching my jaw.

God dammit.

BigV 11-18-2016 01:53 PM

Twil's tire is flat. The vehicle is pulled aaaall the way forward, it's very close quarters. She didn't say I had to change it when I noticed it in the morning yesterday on my way to work. Still that winky bottle jack I have to start on a wood block..... I miss my floor jack.

The bank just found $225.44 in underpaid interest from two years ago and cut me a check...for the estate I am trying to fucking close this week. Now I have to deposit the check in the morning and write two new ones and fucking FedEx them with Saturday delivery to the beneficiaries and hope they can get them deposited and cleared before the end of November. It's Thanksgiving next week.

FUCKING BANKS! How can you miss paying interest? It's all computers. Seriously. How the hell did they miscalculate that? And how did it take two years to find?

SunTrust by the way. Just so you know.

And it's not lost on me the irony that I'm pissed to be getting a check.

come on man. the "computers" didn't make a mistake, it was a person who misentered something and the auditors found and corrected it.

just like Community Chest. Bank error in your favor, collect $200.

Clodfobble 11-21-2019 09:40 PM

Our previous mortgage was owned by SunTrust for a hot minute, back in 2007 or so when our mortgage was sold to three different banks within an 18-month period. They were (and apparently still are) part of the problem.

It's like a lot of places where they are trying to cut costs by getting rid of the older experienced people who know what they are doing, and replacing them with people who have little competency but are cheap.

We've had 9 or 10 scam calls claiming to be Apple today. If anyone has an eardrum piercing whistle and too much spare time you can call (208) 262-0000. Fuckers.

glatt 12-01-2019 05:01 PM

That number probably belongs to an innocent person whose phone number is being spoofed.

Griff 12-01-2019 09:12 PM

Actually that’s the one the scammers tell you to call immediately. I didn’t jot down the likely spoofed number. If you google the number it seems to be used repeatedly for the same scam. You’d think Apple would have some recourse even if humans don’t.

xoxoxoBruce 12-01-2019 10:25 PM

Apple don't care, the more times the name is going in someone's ear the better. You heard it a bunch of times today but you know you shouldn't be pissed at apple.
If I don't know who it is I don't answer. If it's important they'll leave a message.
