Thank you both.

Taking an American phone out of America makes the phone buggy and difficult to use.

The upside is being in Newport News. Seems like a nice place to be.
People here are busy and polite.

Ill be working for a SUPER DUPER big company but know people here to assist with getting back into the groove.

Have a great memorial day weekend!

fargon 05-24-2019 05:19 PM

What are you going to be doing?

slang 05-26-2019 12:42 PM

Designing structures and mechanical systems for US navy ships.

fargon 05-26-2019 03:02 PM

Cool.

slang 06-08-2019 08:25 PM

After my first week I can say the shipyard is BIG, complex and manufactures the most interesting end products Ive ever worked on.

That seems to be all i can say. Even that may be too much.

xoxoxoBruce 06-08-2019 10:51 PM

Hope it pays well.

slang 06-09-2019 08:26 AM

Thanks Bruce, I hope so too. Its a decent base salary. With the anticipared paid overtime, it could be awesome.

Enormous military projects have their own vibe. Once acclimated to the restrictions and security Ill be fine.

The work here will surely hold my full attention and mental capacity for however long this contract.lasts. Could be years.

Who knows?

xoxoxoBruce 06-09-2019 11:18 AM

My buddy's doing a huge housing project in that area.

slang 06-09-2019 11:57 AM

Downtown? Thats where they seem to need one.

The apartment complexes are a bit on the down side.

xoxoxoBruce 06-09-2019 01:00 PM

I don't know the details, just his son had hired like 75 plumbers.

slang 06-09-2019 02:04 PM

Thats a lot of plumbers

It seems as though NN is importing talent in many trades. Or all trades.

Someone told me that the shipyard would be at capacity until 2050 ( ive heard that sort of estimate before though and its always exaggerated). The shipyard drives demand for everything here. It will be interesting to see all the spillover work and development here.

There was a long dry spell and now its time to catch up.

This is a very friendly, interesting and historical town. Its a shame ill be too busy working to explore it.

sexobon 06-09-2019 03:29 PM

I didn't get a chance to explore it either. Long long ago, while on active duty, I attended a week long working conference at Ft. Eustis (now Joint Base Langley-Eustis); but, the additional after conference hours working groups I was in killed any free time. I even had an uncle (retired Air Force, then doing civilian federal forestry land management) who worked on the installation and lived in NN. The only time I got to see him was during a lunch break one day when our schedules coincided. At least being prior service, he knew the deal. The military gets its money's worth.
