Treasure Hunt 13

Yeah, I know we haven't voted on 12 yet, but we all have itchy button fingers, so I'm going ahead and starting the next one :p:

5 categories, enter up to one picture for each.

How you interpret the category is up to you.
How voters interpret the category is up to them.

Whether voters pick photos with the most technical expertise, the wittiest interpretation of the category or the best post production polish is up to them.

No archive pictures allowed -you must take and post your masterpieces between now and 11:59:59.99 PM eastern on Sunday, September 12th 2010.

The Entrant with the most category wins wins, in the event of a tie, the one who has the most total votes, then earliest entry gets the honors. Prize is to pick the categories for treasure hunt 14 or nominate someone to do it for them.

There are some limitations regarding pre or post production enhancement, red eye removal or photo editing (see individual categories), in all cases YOU must have taken the pictures of all the elements included in the shots, and YOU must do all the digital manipulation if allowed.

Here are your words:

1) Au Naturel --This image must be as it came off your camera. Only cropping is allowed. No color tweaking, sharpening etc. Subject matter is up to you -could relate to to category name, doesn't have to..... your interpretation

2) Artificial

3) Inversion

4) Conversion

5) Orange

So...we're gonna go NSFW on this one?

jinx 08-30-2010 07:39 PM

Double dog dare ya...

monster 08-30-2010 07:54 PM

remember, though, no "digital adjustment"

lumberjim 08-31-2010 07:51 AM

I daresay, that he... and most healthy men... digitally adjust themselves on a daily basis.... so good luck with that rule.

Gravdigr 08-31-2010 03:36 PM

If not me, then, who?:sniff:

monster 08-31-2010 08:43 PM

Slick?

Gravdigr 08-31-2010 10:40 PM

Hah!:D

That's one more difference between cats and dogs: Dignity. No matter how much bacon grease or peanut butter you smear on your testicles, a cat will not lick it off.

monster 08-31-2010 10:49 PM

Sounds like you've tried......

Clodfobble 08-31-2010 11:05 PM

God I hope not, cats have those horrid sandpaper tongues.

monster 08-31-2010 11:43 PM

Not all of them. Some have velvety tongues.

What?

Au Naturel or Natural Eau.

I cropped thie tiniest of bits from the bottom and lowered the resolution otherwise it's exactly as it came off the camera.

Rhianne 09-11-2010 02:13 PM

The First Law of Thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed but only transformed from one state to another.

Here we're having a go at converting the energy from the wind into electrical energy.

From a distance it's hard to understand the scale of these things and they look quite graceful as the arms turn in the breeze but up close they're quite different. They're huge, this one is 107 metres tall apparently, and the blades are 80 metres in diameter. Not so graceful either - you can sense real power and standing below them I could feel electrical charge in the air and actually felt nervy, maybe even a little scared (although that might have been partly because I had to climb a fence and go past a sign that said 'This area is protected by dogs' to take the photo).

Anyway, I didn't get the picture I wanted - I'd left my helicopter at home - so this is all I can do for 'Conversion'.

Conversion.

Rhianne, your photos are kicking all kinds of ass.

Rhianne 09-11-2010 03:23 PM

Conversion - Fixed the rotted out basement window frame. The replacement board is not only pressure treated, I also encapsulated it in epoxy. Sucker better not rot.

In the past you could have bet on it Bruce, just plain stupidity this time though.

monster 09-12-2010 05:39 PM

Where was the model village? I used to love those as a kid.

Rhianne 09-13-2010 03:32 AM

Bridlington, near where my brother lives on the Yorkshire coast.

monster 09-13-2010 07:26 AM

Never been to that one. Forgot to take the rest of the pics. oh well. could probably enter something for au naturel if we're up for a one day deadline extension. I just crashed out last night

glatt 09-13-2010 08:37 AM

Post it. We had few entries this time around.

squirell nutkin 09-13-2010 08:45 AM

I want a time extension. I just found this thread, I was away for the weekend.

glatt 09-20-2010 10:43 AM

Any more entries?

If not, I'll do the polls soon.

13 seems like an unlucky number this time around. few entries.

monster 10-02-2010 03:59 PM

See, give it it's own forum and we all lose interest!

I think we should change things around. I think I'mm'a start a new competition where you enter one pic that succesfully captures as many of the categories as possible. You can enter as many pics as you want, you can edit, but no merging of two different pictures.

perhaps there'll be some category guidance like

Category 1 (COLOR/TEXTURE) e.g. blue, crumpled
Category 2 (OBJECT) e.g. tree, sister, ball
Category 3 (MOOD) e.g. happy, hazy, sinister
Category 4 (BACKGROUND) e.g. roadside, watery
Category 5 (WILDCARD) e.g. sparky, beer, vision

there will only be one word per category for each comp.

what do you think?

Gravdigr 10-03-2010 12:38 AM

Why the hell not? I'd thought of a "From Your Computer Chair" contest with like three categories. Also something using archived, and/or scanned or old pix.

glatt 10-04-2010 09:47 AM

Sounds fine to me. I feel bad that we all lost interest just as Rhianne was really getting up to speed. There was some good competition there.

classicman 10-04-2010 10:02 AM

:2cents: - There were some distractions and the back to school season hit at the same time.
Maybe less categories and a shorter timeframe. Seemed like most of you got your pics in pretty early then there was a wait and then the voting... :2cents:

Gravdigr 10-04-2010 02:05 PM

We haven't lost interest. We're waiting for a vote. I'd do the poll thing, but, I don't know how.:dunce:

monster 10-04-2010 07:59 PM

I'm just all out of time now school's back in.... it might ease up soon

I like this one.

Rhianne 10-04-2010 09:23 PM

As there are only 13 pictures I suggest merging the categories this time.

I'll have a go tomorrow if no-one else wants to.

zippyt 10-04-2010 09:30 PM

May I suggest , insted of doing Photo contests Every 2 weeks
we think about Seasonal
as in
Fall , leaves , Halloween costumes , etc
Winter , Best snow and Ice , Warm By a fire , hot toddies , etc,,,
Spring , New growth , Crawling Out of Hibernation , etc,,,
Summer , Schools Out Glee and Sadness , best Bikini ( lady's ONLY !! ), Vacation etc,,,

We should Allow Multi pics , and the contests should last 3 months , to be Judged as usual ,

What say Ye of the Cellar ???

Gravdigr 10-06-2010 02:31 PM

3 fucking months?!?! I don't plan nothing that far in advance.
