I've got a two-fer! First, the (relatively) easy one:

Diaphone Jim 01-17-2020 11:12 AM

Ditto on Elvis.

Clodfobble 01-17-2020 11:14 AM

Not Elvis. But the lips are key.

Gravdigr 01-17-2020 11:19 AM

And the hair. Or the relative lack thereof...

This was a good one.

ETA: If this was the easy one, I can't wait for the next...

Clodfobble 01-17-2020 11:23 AM

Honestly, the next one's so hard I'm afraid it might be kind of a downer--like, "Oh, well we never could have guessed that, so what's the point?" This one, at least, you hear the answer and say, "Oh YEAH, I can see it..."

glatt 01-17-2020 11:31 AM

I was considering this one, and a certain name kept popping into my head, but I wasn't convinced so didn't announce it. I finally had given up and did something I never do. I cheated. And damn if it wasn't the name that was popping into my head.

I still don't entirely see it. I must have seen a "when they were young" page once in the past and it registered in my memory. I bet I saw that photo before.

Spexxvet 01-18-2020 07:44 AM

Burt Reynolds?

Clodfobble 01-18-2020 09:36 AM

Not Burt Reynolds. It's...

David Hasselhoff!

Clodfobble 01-18-2020 09:39 AM

And now the stupidly hard one. Note how the hair is shellacked into straightness, and combed down in front to hide the already-balding spot...

glatt 01-18-2020 10:31 AM

This one, I've seen before, so I feel like it's cheating to answer. It's a good one though.

BigV 01-18-2020 11:31 AM

John McCain

OK, the brain is so weird. The first time I looked at the pic, I had no idea who it was. But the moment I read that you've seen it before, I realized who it was.

So I MUST have seen it before... because the idea of "seeing it before" triggered the name of the person. Right now I'm absolutely certain that I've seen it before. (But I still had to cheat to verify it 100%!)

The deep recesses of the mind... may those clouds stay where they are, and not advance into everyday life

glatt 01-18-2020 11:51 AM

Isn't it amazing that our brains remember such trivial details that we saw briefly years ago?

I guess faces are something that would be evolutionarily advantageous to remember though, so we must be hard wired to encode that information somewhere. I bet we can recognize thousands of faces. Maybe tens of thousands. Even if we have trouble placing them.

fargon 01-18-2020 11:57 AM

I cheated and I have never heard of him or the show he was on.

glatt 01-18-2020 12:25 PM

Yes you have.

fargon 01-18-2020 01:20 PM

If you say so.

I have an abnormally good ability to recognize faces, and an abnormally bad ability to put them in context. On multiple occasions, I've recognized someone that I spent as little as an hour with as a child, some 15 years after the fact. And yet, more than once I have seen an actual, current friend of mine out of context--like they're a parent at my kids' school, and I see them at the grocery store without their kids--and I can't for the life of me figure out how I know them.

sexobon 01-18-2020 03:01 PM

That's understandable. The studies I've heard about say that despite the hundreds; or, even thousands of contacts you may have IRL and over social media, humans can process a maximum of only about 150 relationships at a time. People are constantly moving in and out of that group.

Undertoad 01-18-2020 05:42 PM

Dunbar's number and it turns out to be wildly important to how we get along and stuff

It's also the limit of Cellar members we can truly trust

The unspoken inner circle of which I have now spoken meaning it is no longer unspoken

I'm glad I have a driver's licence to refer to when I can't remember my own name. Either that or wait ten minutes when it pops up while trying to remember something else.

A couple years ago I had a guy walk up to me at a car show and I had no clue. I had given him (charged $1) a '67 Chevy Impala SS convertible a year before that. He was black and I don't interface with that many black guys, and it wasn't like I couldn't remember his name, no connection at all.
Don't lend me money. :headshake

Gravdigr 01-19-2020 12:50 PM

Is the pic Larry David?

Clodfobble 01-19-2020 01:09 PM

Yes it is!!

Gravdigr 01-20-2020 11:16 AM

I put glasses on him, and a bald-ish head, and there he was.

I never was a big fan of this guy, I found him just 'ok'.

Now I find him unrecognizable. Unless you saw the same article I did a few days ago, you might, too.

Who is this?

Attachment 70611

sexobon 05-16-2020 04:03 PM

Bryan Adams' father?

xoxoxoBruce 05-16-2020 10:27 PM

Reminds me of Drew Carey

xoxoxoBruce 07-11-2020 09:26 PM

BigV 07-11-2020 09:34 PM

Roger Stone

No Sir.

BigV 07-11-2020 10:37 PM

sexobon 07-11-2020 10:41 PM

Anderson Cooper's real father?

Gravdigr 07-11-2020 10:48 PM

Seems he should have a cigar in his mouth...

Louis Mayer?

xoxoxoBruce 07-11-2020 11:46 PM

24 year old school teacher from TN.

fargon 07-12-2020 08:15 AM

Mr Scopes?

xoxoxoBruce 07-12-2020 09:14 AM

Yes Sir, John T Scopes.

Diaphone Jim 07-12-2020 11:03 AM

Well, hell. Wrapped that up in 12 hours.

And who would this 9 year old grow up to be?

Gravdigr 09-28-2020 11:37 PM

The first thing that popped into my mind was Elvis. Presley.

Popdigr said Kurt Russell, but, I think Kurt was already an established actor by the age of nine.

I think ti-ii-ii-me is not on either of our sides...

xoxoxoBruce 09-28-2020 11:40 PM

Nope.

Gravdigr 09-28-2020 11:47 PM

I've since cheated.

It's a good Who Is This, but, I think it will go unsolved.

xoxoxoBruce 09-28-2020 11:52 PM

Yeah it's tough, I won't let it drag on too long, after all he died young.

Griff 09-29-2020 06:03 AM

James Dean

xoxoxoBruce 09-29-2020 08:52 AM

Yes Sir, James Dean it is, :notworthy

Pope Francis, perhaps.

Gravdigr 09-30-2020 12:22 AM

Just went ahead on and cheated.

Those long fingers prolly helped him get famous...

Definitely.

Spexxvet 09-30-2020 07:29 AM

Santana?

glatt 09-30-2020 12:39 PM

I didn't notice the fingers before.

I bet that's the Free Solo climber.

Alex Anold, or however you spell his last name. He's got the ears too.

The photo looks like it's from the '60s and the book also throws me off, but I can see it in his face and fingers. That's Alex.
