Got a cool and/or funny sports pic? Dump it here.

Moderator: If this should be in the 'Quality Images & Videos' thread feel free to move it over there.

I don't know who the guy in red is, the guy on the (our) right is Muhammad Ali. And back there in the next row? That would be a Ray Leonard, of the Sugar variety.

Griff 11-05-2011 04:22 PM

Spinx used to use his face to tire opponents, maybe is was beat up boxer day at the stadium... although Sugar Ray still looks like he has it together.

Where Is Leon Spinks Now:
Spinks was reportedly homeless just over a decade after winning the heavyweight title. Later, after getting divorced, he briefly lived in a shelter in his native St. Louis. He's been a greeter at Mike Ditka's restaurant in Chicago. He also helped start a gym in Detroit and did assorted odd jobs in California.

More recently, he was living in Columbus, Nebraska and working at a local YMCA and McDonalds. He was also volunteering at an after-school program for youth.
sad.

Griff 11-05-2011 05:34 PM

Wow. That is awful. Is it Leon in the pic?

classicman 11-05-2011 07:45 PM

Not from what I saw. My guess is that its just some guy who wanted his pic taken with Ali.

zippyt 11-05-2011 09:44 PM

Eather Bootsy Collins or Flavor Flav , I Believe

classicman 11-06-2011 12:35 AM

Damn Zippyt - It is Bootsy Collins!!

Griff 11-06-2011 05:39 AM

Wow Zip you are gooood! Now youtubing Bootsy. cool funk

Clodfobble 11-06-2011 01:21 PM

Bootsy Collins recorded an original track for NBA Jam back in the early 2000s. I didn't get to sit in on the sessions myself, but my two coworkers reported back that he was a very mellow, cool guy in person. A career musician who didn't let the fame go to his head.

Gravdigr 11-07-2011 04:59 PM

I was all set to holler bullshit, but...

Damn if it ain't.

Former Miami University star and current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is taking a beating on Twitter for the hat he wore to a postgame press conference following Pittsburgh’s overtime loss to Denver in Sunday’s AFC wild-card game.

Here are some of the funnier (clean) Tweets we’ve seen about Big Ben and his hat:

@SarahSpain: Apparently Big Ben’s got a 1920′s murder mystery dinner to attend after this presser.

@DeLaNate: Ben may have single handedly just killed the fedora fad. At least he did something right today.

@EddieMcClintock: Ben Roethlisberger; Big Man. Big head. Small hat.

@sidmanlaw: I wonder if #Roethlisberger got Steelers-branded lederhosen and a tankard when he bought that hat. #oktoberfest anyone?

@Elisemenaker: Big Ben murdered Professor Plum in the dining room with the candlestick.

ZenGum 01-10-2012 06:37 PM

I bet nobody said those things to his face, though.

infinite monkey 01-10-2012 07:46 PM

Or any professional (american) football player. They're all giants!

Gravdigr 01-14-2012 02:34 AM

Two things:

1. Ben Rothels Rothilsb Big Ben would make a fantastic heavy in a Dick Tracy/Last Man Standing/Road To Perdition/Give 'Em Hell Malone-type flick.

2. Kojak called. He wants his hat back.

Griff 01-15-2012 07:32 AM

I reckon that kid plays cricket too.

(catches get the batsman out, and only the wicketkeeper ("catcher") wears gloves. The rest are barehand.)

How wild is this? The ball goes in the guy's shorts!! And Phil still parred the hole!

Also Phil Mickelson was very cool to sign a glove for the guy, I thought.

Phil, you rock!

I see three spectators looking at the fight with grins on their faces.

And I see cloned 3 space aliens trying to blend in with the crowd in the first row. But if they are all going to wear the same human body suit, they should stand father apart from one another.

Yeah, yeah, short holes. But any way you look at it, that little girl put a (roughly) 1.5" ball into a 4.25" hole that was (for the shorter of the two) almost 200 feet away!

Twice, in one round.

infinite monkey 03-16-2012 06:24 PM

Amazing! That's so cool. My dad didn't get back into golfing like he wanted until about 10 years ago, but he's since had two holes-in-one.

For a girl that age to do that? In one round? Unbelievable! When she gets older I hope she stays that good. Bigger person, bigger courses. Because she will be legendary.

Having just re-watched this clip for the 50th time seems like...

At the very end of the clip, how many times does the announcer say the phrase "Head's up."?

ZenGum 04-23-2012 08:17 PM

Maybe "heads up" is Tennesseean for "emergency services please deploy".

Justin Bethel. 60 inch vertical. If there's anything else to say, I don't know wtf it'd be.

That is impressive hops, for sure.

Not to split hairs, but I would measure an effective vertical by what you are able to reach--overhead, not by how tight you can tuck your heels. (This is based on the assumption that the purpose of a vertical is to do awesome slam dunks, like over dudes heads and what-not. By no means the only reason to develop a vertical--it's just the only thing I ever did with it.)

Gravdigr 05-11-2012 12:02 PM

Yeah, I mis-spoke. The vid referred to it as a box jump...we called 'em table jumps when I was in school.

Maybe ya can't tell without the Crown Royal hat, but, that's Troy Tulowitzki getting, uh...

Attachment 38786

...I'm not sure what's going on there.

classicman 05-17-2012 08:54 PM

Quote:

A night after a foul ball by teammate Dexter Fowler struck near his left knee, Tulowitzki returned to Colorado's starting lineup Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants despite some soreness in his leg.

Tulowitzki had yet to see a replay of the incident - and isn't sure he'd want to watch one anyway. He said he'll still stand on the dugout steps - something he has done his entire career - before he's on-deck but will certainly do more to shield himself.

''Maybe not like on the top, top step,'' Tulowitzki said. ''I've been standing up there forever. But I guess all it takes is one time.''

Colorado knows the injury to its star shortstop could've been far worse.

Fowler sent a line drive into the Rockies' dugout along first base in the eighth inning of San Francisco's 3-2 victory Monday night. After being examined by athletic trainer Keith Dugger, Tulowitzki stayed in the game and took his turn at-bat.

He reached on an infield single against Javier Lopez but hobbled to the base, clearly in pain. Manager Jim Tracy and Dugger hustled out to first and Tulowitzki was lifted for pinch-runner Chris Nelson.

To get the full effect here, keep in mind the fellow being held up over Tendai "The Beast" Mtawarira's head is Anton Bresler, and he weighs 247 lbs. And w/Beast's arms fully extended, and the full 247 lbs dangling behind his back...
