July 20th, 2017: Lotsa Bikes
Hangzhou, China decided they might help their air pollution problem by spending $24 million to start a bike share program.
Know what, it fucking worked, it really did help. But then free enterprise got into the act with “dockless bikes” and suddenly bikes were chained to everything that didn’t move throughout the whole city. http://cellar.org/2017/bikes2.jpg The city government finally got fed up and the police seized 23,000 bikes and hauled them off to a “graveyard” in March. There they sit, rusting away, a reminder of how a good successful program can be screwed by greedy “free enterprise” dudes. Guess they’ll have to go back to selling Cutco knives. http://cellar.org/2017/bikes1.jpg link |
That is completely appalling on so many levels.

Damn, that's a lot of bikes. But only one for every 60 thousand or so Chinese.
I wonder if it is just an illusion that some kind of color-coding was used in parking them. |
It's the Chinese antithesis to the Japanese garden.
