New bucket list item!

...This one time, at bomber camp...

"So there I was, in the ball turret of a B-24, surrounded by rednecks..."

Happy Monkey 12-19-2018 10:28 AM

I bet that guy triple-checked the landing gear before missions.

Gravdigr 12-19-2018 10:54 AM

What was the movie where the plane (with a ball turret underneath) was coming with no, or not enough landing gear, with a guy trapped in the ball turret and one of the guys drew a cartoon landing gear and the plane landed on cartoon landing gear? I thought it was Memphis Belle, but, apparently I am wrong about that.

Did I imagine that? If I did, DIBS! on the storyline.

Happy Monkey 12-19-2018 11:50 AM

You didn't imagine it....

I remember that episode of Amazing Stories and remember Steven Spielberg directing it, but didn't realize there were so many stars in it.

I remember it and I remember switching off the TV in disgust.

Did you see the episode? Worst deus ex machina in the history of deus ex machinas.

Or kind of a nice metaphor?

glatt 12-20-2018 10:38 AM

So it's been 20 years or so since I've seen it.

Was it the gunner or another crew member who got out their sketchbook and drew the cartoon wheel on the plane?

In any event, it was a cunning service member who saved the day. Not some supernatural outside force. :p:

Undertoad 12-20-2018 11:06 AM

Spoiler,

The belly gunner is a cartoonist and when he draws in the landing gear, it magically appears to save him. Here's a review with the full plot
