I always wanted a 50s hot rod, or moonshine runnin'-type car made on a 36 or 38 Chevy. Love 'em.

gtown 07-02-2018 03:52 PM

God bless Canadian crime - if this had happened in the US there would have been bloodshed and/or death but instead we get one of the best silent movies since Chaplin. And what an ending!

gtown 07-02-2018 03:54 PM

(and yes I know Canada has their share of violent crime and cannibal bus rides but their share is vastly lower than the US)

xoxoxoBruce 07-02-2018 07:04 PM

I had figured out from other sites it's Vimeo which had never been a problem before. Then it would let me post a Vimeo link here convinced me I'm on Trumps enemy list. :rolleyes:

Sooner you than me, gentlemen! :eek:

My Daddy said never jump out of a perfectly good airplane. I haven't.

Gravdigr 07-05-2018 03:00 PM

Hey, that's a LiveLeak video!

When did we regain the ability to embed LiveLeak vids?

A good question, sir.

I just thought I'd have a go at posting and, as you observe, it worked!
Probably best not to look too deeply into it for fear it angers the Gods.
Old engineering principle, working well, leave it alone.:)

Undertoad 07-05-2018 03:21 PM

It's not working for me! I don't see the vid.

It showed OK when I posted on Win 10 using Firefox and it's also OK on my iPad.

Does that shed any light on it?

Undertoad 07-05-2018 03:29 PM

I love these kinds of things. No I kinda do.

for me, it's not displayed on Chrome or Firefox, on Win 10. Who all can see it?

Gravdigr 07-05-2018 03:42 PM

Well, I can see it, and it plays. I'm using FF 51.0.1 (32-bit version), if that helps ya any.

Gravdigr 07-05-2018 03:45 PM

I get a white rectangle in Explorer (11.0.9600.18097).

ETA: Gonna try to post a LiveLeak vid, w/FF obviously.:right:

Gravdigr 07-05-2018 03:49 PM

Do it werk?

Gravdigr 07-05-2018 03:50 PM

It werk! It werk!

For me anyway. I don't think there is a soundtrack with my clip, b/c sound works for Carruthers' clip.

Carruthers 07-05-2018 04:08 PM

Working fine for me, Grav.

Undertoad 07-05-2018 04:16 PM

I see, it works with the non-https version of the Cellar...

:thepain:

Undertoad 07-05-2018 04:18 PM

Works for me now, does it work for you guyz now?

Carruthers 07-05-2018 05:09 PM

Still OK on my iPad but posting from the comfort of my four poster bed so can't report on Win 10/FF until tomorrow AM.

xoxoxoBruce 07-05-2018 05:44 PM

Both that and Carruthers video work on windows 7pro with chrome.

Diaphone Jim 07-05-2018 06:33 PM

Very seldom do vids here work on Windows, but most do on Chrome.

Still OK on Win 10 & Firefox this morning.

Undertoad 07-06-2018 07:34 AM

Can anyone NOT see the vids at this point? I changes the iframe that liveleak uses to have it be https and I think that was the issue.

Ha! They fooled you.

Undertoad 07-06-2018 08:12 AM

It's true!! It turns out secured sites are not supposed to serve up unsecured content from another site in an iframe or img or etc. Links fine, content not fine. The browsers started enforcing that at some point and there I stand with my thumb in my mouth.

Gravdigr 07-06-2018 02:14 PM

I just noticed that when the page that Carruthers' parachute clip is on loads, the slider that moves along the bottom of the video when it plays is moving along the bottom of the video like it's playing, but, I haven't started the vid yet. The clip isn't playing, but the little red stripe is growing like the vid is already loading. The whale clip I posted on the same page doesn't do that.

Does it every time I load the page.

Gravdigr 07-06-2018 02:16 PM

Still don't see the vids w/IE. Which suits me, I like FF better.:firefox:

The bar moving when it's loading shows pink and when playing it turns red, on my browser.

fargon 07-06-2018 06:21 PM

I'm using Win10 and Chrome and everything works just fine.

BigV 07-06-2018 07:49 PM

works for me, Win10 chromeVersion 67.0.3396.99 (Official Build) (64-bit)

As the saying goes, 'even if you win the rat race, you're still a rat'. :)

And the section about 30 secs in appears to have been inspired by bitter experience on the London Tube network.
Northern Line anyone? :eek:

xoxoxoBruce 07-08-2018 12:48 PM

What the hell? I enter the Vimeo info with the format and also wrote the link in case anyone is having the same problem I am with the thing showing as a fuzzy picture that won't do anything nor a clue as to what or where it is. Then it took the link and made it a second fuzzy picture. :confused:

The link is https://vimeodotcom/244405542

Now I'm going to post the quote and see what happens ...

sexobon 07-08-2018 01:15 PM

Since the preview of the quote continues to be fine in the Cellar software, I'd guess the issue is at the Vimeo end; but, who knows.

xoxoxoBruce 07-08-2018 05:51 PM

Yeah, it's not just here every site I look at with a Vimeo video it's the same thing.

Damn, in Chrome I can't see the Vimeo videos but I can see the utube videos. I just tried IE and I can see the Vimeo videos fine but the utube videos just show up as black squares. :facepalm:

I may have guessed right!

I asked Google "Why does the VIMEO URL link display a video?" Among the results I found was Vimeo supports oEmbed, which allows you to turn a Vimeo URL into an embed link. I followed a link therein to oEmbed is an open standard for embedding videos and/or images into a website. A link in that page led me to the explanation:

Quote:

oEmbed is a format for allowing an embedded representation of a URL on third party sites. The simple API allows a website to display embedded content (such as photos or videos) when a user posts a link to that resource, without having to parse the resource directly. …

1. Quick Example

A consumer (e.g. WordPress) makes the following HTTP request:

HTML Code:

http://www.flickr.com/services/oembed/?format=json&url=http%3A//www.flickr.com/photos/bees/2341623661/
The provider (e.g. Flickr) then responds with an oEmbed response:

HTML Code:

{
        "version": "1.0",
        "type": "photo",
        "width": 240,
        "height": 160,
        "title": "ZB8T0193",
        "url": "http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3123/2341623661_7c99f48bbf_m.jpg",
        "author_name": "Bees",
        "author_url": "http://www.flickr.com/photos/bees/",
        "provider_name": "Flickr",
        "provider_url": "http://www.flickr.com/"
}

This allows the consumer to turn a URL to a Flickr photo page into structured data to allow embedding of that photo in the consumer's website.
In our case, the Cellar is the consumer and VIMEO is the provider. It seems that the provider can choose to convert the VIMEO URL into an oEmbed HTTP request at the provider's site. The sharing properties of your video does say that it contains a text code. The provider (VIMEO) then gives an oEmbed response and controls whether or not posting a URL results in a video appearing.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it (until someone proves me wrong). :p:

xoxoxoBruce 07-08-2018 08:02 PM

I tried a couple other sites and chrome Vimeo=no, utube=yes, whereas with IE Vimeo=yes, and utube=yes, on those sites..

Excuse me Lord, the name is Bruce, not Job.

xoxoxoBruce 07-09-2018 09:36 PM

Did you hear that, are you sure?

xoxoxoBruce 07-12-2018 05:59 PM

Oh noes...

Gravdigr 07-14-2018 04:30 PM

Pool Whirlpool

1 Attachment(s)
I had the hose going full blast in the pool and it kept making these little whirlpools that I thought were cool. The sound at the start is my neighbor's lawnmower but the whirlpool does make a cool sound when it reaches the hose and air gets sucked into the stream. Pic so you know the money shot...

xoxoxoBruce 07-16-2018 10:46 PM

I wonder if you could do that with a straw in a soda if you sucked hard enough?

Wait. Were you putting water in the pool, or were you siphoning from the pool?

gtown 07-17-2018 04:39 PM

Putting water into the pool - nozzle was set to a strong stream (not spray) so I'm assuming the force of the water was pulling down from the surface

Gravdigr 07-18-2018 03:05 PM

Weird.

Gravdigr 07-21-2018 04:06 PM

Waterfalls. In an aquarium. Waterfalls, made of sand.

Nope. It's way more awesome than that.

Wow. :thumb::thumb:

xoxoxoBruce 07-23-2018 08:48 AM

Next innovation, QR code readers built into the cells near where the magnetic extraction point is that lets the table read the code on the box and tell the table where the box should be taken/moved to.

xoxoxoBruce 07-23-2018 11:32 AM

Yes, they were playing with the routing on a laptop, but I can visualize a future controlled by our AI overlords, where every box is programmed in and it's entire trip planned and executed.

The overlords love execution, remember that.:unsure:

Because cleaning up after an outing ruins the buzz, so Mother Nature's help is beautiful. ;)
But the Scoutmaster in you is immediately pumping adrenaline to secure your troops.

glatt 08-02-2018 07:20 AM

I'd like to think we would be fine, but the holding power of stakes is a wildcard.

A lot of the tents flying around are the pop-up kind that nobody bothers to stake down. Although you'd think there would be enough crap in them to weigh them down.

xoxoxoBruce 08-02-2018 09:30 AM

I didn't mean your tents, but any of your troop boys attending the gathering. Commendably, You take you responsibility for them seriously. :notworthy

Because most people drive the stakes straight in. They hold much better when driven at an angle to the guy line.
