I feel like the significance of the war is largely lost on us. I remember back around 2000 our county paper's 100 years ago section, which is broken down by municipality, was full of the comings and goings of Spanish American War Veterans. Maybe I should start getting the paper again.

WW I, "the war to end all wars", was the last of the Rugby style attrition wars. The peace treaty was a shameful failure, doomed from the get-go. :(
