It's sad really. Likes and retweets don't cut the mustard in my experience, compared to face-to-face engagement. I think social media is isolating us.

Not a fair comparison. Have you ever had to commute to/from work on a train? The LAST thing you want to do is look other people (potential nutjobs) in the eye.

Let's see some candid photos of people having dinner in restaurants from that same era. They engage at the table; they're not looking at their cell phones (reading the paper) and ignoring others around them.
