Only once was I not paid while on active duty because of a shutdown. I didn't get a midmonth paycheck. It came through retroactively at the end of the month.

Legislation is required to be passed, each time there's a lengthy shutdown, for military personnel to get paid during the shutdown. If that doesn't happen, then legislation has to be passed, each time, for military personnel to get retroactive pay for that period after the shutdown is over.

How long do ya tihnk this shutdown will last??

He is trying to bully them to fund his wall.........

You knew you would get it eventually because you were still working, plus being housed and fed if necessary.

That doesn't help spouses or children when not living in government housing. The paycheck includes stipends for off installation housing allowance and separate rations.

If he tries to get Mexico to pay for it by increasing import duty on tequila, we'll impeach him. There are limits.

I know a few federal workers. Some are still working and getting paid, and some are at home without a paycheck. All of them are decent people who work hard at their jobs.

Politicians who use them as pawns to score political points are tools.

Sometimes they are paid retroactively and sometimes not.

If Trump lets the shutdown drag on without getting funding for a physical border barrier, he's all washed up in politics when his term is up. Presidents have to at least know when to cut their losses to be given the chance to fight another day.

That assumes his supporter think logically. All Trump need do is insult others and change the topic with plenty more lies. His supporters will believe.

Remember, a crook Nixon still had his core 30% strong supporters even as he resigned in disgrace and criminal guilt. Those naive Nixon (and Trump) supporters refuse to acknowledge reality. It is the nature of many who still think like children; who only know what their extremist political biases order them to believe.

That wall would be paid for by Mexico - an obvious lie when he said it. It probably costs $25billion. Trump said 5. Now he says 2.5. Does not matter. He is not preaching to adults who think like adults. He is preaching only to adults still thinking like children. Trump can lie all he wants and they will love him for it. Logic cannot explain conclusions that only come from emotion.

sexobon 12-30-2018 10:46 PM

Trump didn't win the popular vote and he only fills a niche with enough people to swing the Electoral College. His hardcore supporters alone can't carry him to reelection.

Bears repeating. Just regular folks doing their jobs.

Federal employees usually are eventually paid, but contractors whose jobs are put on hold usually aren't.

And so we further induce a recession by paying people for productive work that was never done. A lesson from recessions. When money spent today does not result in productive products four years from now, then that missing 'return on investment' creates recession.

Same reason why tax cuts also created recessions.

Trump is an adult who is still a child. This is his tantrum because he cannot have his wall. We elected the kind of person we wanted. He is the manifestation of us.
