Dec 6th, 2017: MAREA

MAREA is a new transatlantic cable finished in September, from Virginia Beach, USA, to Bilboa, Spain.
Paid for by Microsoft and Facebook, it will be operated by the Telxius, subsidiary of Spanish telecom Telefónica.

I wonder if the caption was 4 men die laying Virginia Cableline.

Faster than a speeding bullet, heavier than 34 Blue Whales, able to transmit 160 terebits in a single second.
This baby could count money faster than my EX could spend it, but still represents only 15% of demand for traffic.

The route was chosen partially because most of the cables are further north and the land junctions got knocked out
by Hurricane Sandy, plus Microsoft has four cloud data centers in that Virginia area.

Ever since The Great Eastern laid the first successful transatlantic telegraph wire, cable laying ships have had one job.
Take a cable attached to land and laying it underwater to another point on land. Don’t break it or lose the end, simple.

But it’s seems that is easier said than done, it appears to be a little more complicated.
