Dec 7th, 2017: Infamy

You may have heard of the incident at Pearl Harbor Hawaii on December 7th, 1941.
There he is, the face that will live in infamy.

Isoroku Yamamoto, the rat bastard behind it, Japanese Marshal Admiral of the Navy
and the commander-in-chief of the Jap Combined Fleet during World War II until his death.

Two years ago I saw the plane that shot down Yamamoto. It was part of a group that flew over DC to celebrate the 70th VE Day anniversary. Which is kind of funny since it served the the Pacific.

I didn't know exactly who Yamamoto was at the time.

I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.
While the quote attributed to Yamamoto can not be verified, it is accurate.

Infamous

Attended Harvard. Toured the United States. Spoke excellent English. Opposed the war with the US. Opposed the invasion of Manchuria. Opposed the land war with China. Opposed the 1940 Tripartite pact with Germany and Italy. Disliked by the Japanese Prime Minister Tojo. Should have been on our side!

Also misattributed to Yamamoto:

Quote:

You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.
Awesome statement, but, he almost certainly didn't say it.

What would make the USA difficult/impossible to invade from over seas isn't the preponderance of firearms it's the vast landscape and incredible difficulties maintaining supply lines. Add in the unparalleled might of the US Army and Navy and the rifle sprouting grasslands really don't come into it.

But!

You have to admit, it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "fields of fire".

I thought it was Chuck Norris.
