Products You Never Knew Existed

2 Attachment(s)
Menstrual Cups.

Re-usable, and disposable.

:speechls:

Sheldonrs 04-03-2011 03:28 PM

Usually you have to be Catholic to see blood in a cup.

Tulip 04-03-2011 04:52 PM

How the heck you even about this product is what I'm wondering. :eyebrow:

Nirvana 04-03-2011 05:15 PM

Next time you take a photo wash the darn thing before posting it!

;)

wolf 04-04-2011 12:09 AM

The Dutch Cap is, if you'll pardon the expression, bloody expensive.

I have used the disposable (Instead), and they aren't all that reliable. Difficult to install and messy on the removal. Only thing I can think of as potentially ickier is "Glad Rags."

elSicomoro 04-04-2011 12:16 AM

Actually, I know someone that uses one of these because she hates using tampons. She apparently is happy with it.

At Wikipedia, on the left of the screen is a link ("Random Article") that takes you to a random article on Wikipedia. I make it a point to click that button at least once, every time I go online.

Ah, teh wonderful, wonderful internetz.

elSicomoro 04-04-2011 10:58 AM

Another name for this item: diva cup.

If I had to use one, I'd dress it out like a Pimp Cup.

Cloud 04-04-2011 11:40 AM

I've used those. they're nice, but can leak if you don't get them seated just right.

I use one of these. It's a bitch getting one long enough to reach to work and back.

If that's so, she either hasn't much of a flow, or doesn't go out in public much. The Dutch Cap type needs to be washed before reinstalling, so you need a sink right there in front of the toilet so you can lean over without standing up and run it under water. The Instead has a tendency to leak under proper usage, and splatter on removal.

You guys had to go and bring it up. Deal with it

elSicomoro 04-04-2011 12:31 PM

The user is...let's just say she's...a character, and leave it at that.

jimhelm 04-04-2011 12:40 PM

ew!

grosses' fread evar!

Spexxvet 04-04-2011 02:09 PM

Can we chenge the subject to something less gross, like diarrhea or snot?

Pete Zicato 04-04-2011 04:09 PM

Snot like this is all that gross.

Cloud 04-04-2011 04:26 PM

poor men, afraid of a little menstrual blood. "only women bleed" - uh, or is that "breed"?

the cups are good for sleeping on heavy days. You have to change them in the shower or tub, though, otherwise, they are a mess.

And have you heard of the sponges? there are special menstrual sponges, which you then wash and reuse. Save the planet against the evils of wastepaper and chlorine. All that.

http://www.gladrags.com/c-21-sea-sponge-tampons.aspx

oh, and for the record? SO GLAD THAT'S ALL OVER FOR ME! yay menopausal-hood! :p:

Sheldonrs 04-04-2011 04:54 PM

Like the saying goes, "Never trust anything that bleeds for 7 days and lives!"

:D

infinite monkey 04-05-2011 03:23 PM

I'd rather not die from toxic shock syndrome, thanks velly much: the reason so many things were taken off market.

Sorry, I'm a woman, but all that crap is just GROSS. Yeah it's a fact of life, that doesn't mean I need to swim around in it.

Undertoad 04-05-2011 04:15 PM

You can take birth control pills without a break and stop having periods entirely. I think there are a few options along that line nowadays.

monster 04-05-2011 05:06 PM

sure, let's completely fuck with the hormones and risk blood clots and cancer and all.....

As far as I understand, its no riskier taking the pills without a period than it is with. In fact, my last gyno did that. I'm on seasonale, so only 4 periods a year, and they're short/light at that. If you get an IUD like Mirena, it can also stop your periods altogether. Are you against all birth control methods that use a type of hormone, or just when used to stop periods? There is no increase in risk to take a continuous pill vs a standard pill. There are benefits too of taking the pill. Although your risk cervical cancer increases, taking the pill reduces the risk of cancers of the ovary and uterus. Also decreases the risk of developing RA, as my sister found out after the fact, and developing fibroid muscle tumors, which was the cause of my mom's hysterectomy. There are decades of studies on these types of methods, and there is no evidence that shows that monthly bleeding is necessary.

monster 04-06-2011 07:42 AM

Yes, I'm not a big fan of mucking with hormones at all. I was mostly being facetious, though. You could also fix monthly periods with a hysterectomy. Doesn't mean you should. It's part of nature, leave it alone unless it makes your life unliveable, in which case do what you need, but please, for the love of fsm, don't share it with me

---

I think men should be able to go into a store and buy tampons with out feeling stupid. I do not believe anyone should discuss the ins and outs of anyone's menstruation at the dinner table. It's great that we no longer make women ring bells and yell "unclean", but I'm happy for the acceptability of the issue not to go too far in the other direction.

glatt 04-06-2011 07:46 AM

Everyone poops, but if you talk about it at our dinner table, we make you take you plate into the kitchen and eat in there. So far it's only happened to my son, but I think it's a good rule.

I've bought tampons for my wife when picking up other things at the store and she needed them. Didn't feel dumb about it.

infinite monkey 04-06-2011 07:48 AM

It's not like anyone's thinking 'oh my why does that man need tampons?' most think 'what a cool husband/boyfriend.'

Men are liberated too.

Yeah, Mirena stopped my periods... but only after I bled for the first 6 weeks straight.

Sundae 04-07-2011 06:55 AM

I'm on Implanon and haven't had a period for six years. Lovely.
All medical people I have spoken to say it's actually good for my body not to create and destroy the lining of my womb needlessly every month.

Have a hysterectomy?
Erm, no thanks.
I've known enough of women who have (none as elective surgery).
Three months off work it a lot more unpleasant than 10 minutes every three years to have a small incision in my arm and a new implant added. It doesn't even require a Doctor, simply a trained Nurse.

I'll take my chances on long term effects in the way I do by being overweight. It's a gamble, but an informed one.

Products I never knew existed? Until recently, edible glue and edible marker pens. Now I use them every week.

DanaC 04-07-2011 07:30 AM

I was thinking...wtf? Edible marker pens? Who wants to eat marker pens? Then I reconsidered and realised: kiddywinks.

Over for me too, about 5 years. I don't miss it.

infinite monkey 04-07-2011 07:53 AM

Envious. Seems I'm starting that 5 to 7 to 10 year trek and I don't know if I can stand it that long. The moods!

Did you gals take hormones? I worry about me being a smoker. Natural remedies you'd recommend?

In my neck-o-the-woods it becomes: I don't trust anything that bleeds for a week and don't die.

I think that makes Clod a zombie. Or Christ. Or a buffet for a vampire.

Wasn't that a movie and tv show..."Buffet, the Vampire Slayer"? lol

Cloud 04-07-2011 05:19 PM

no, I'm not taking hormones. Could have used some anti-crazy meds right after the hysto, tho.

Oh God look at those glubs. I think I threw up a little in my mouth.

wolf 04-08-2011 11:00 PM

Hey, that Gamekeeper is totally awesome. I have the Color Gameboy version. they'd switched to ballistic nylon over a plastic frame by then, but basically the same product.

Silly girl! I mean in cake decorating terms.
I can stick on googly eyes with edible glue (mini marshmallows) and draw on wings and smiles and things with "pen".

Gravdigr 04-14-2011 12:56 PM

The 3M GOLD Privacy Filter

I knew these things existed, but, this is the best one I've seen (the guy talking in the vid doesn't seem all that impressed, though). Un-noticeable, to you.

wolf 04-20-2011 04:24 PM

Not technically a product, but I never knew there was an official rating scale.

Gravdigr 04-20-2011 06:54 PM

I've actually heard of that...I think from the Cellar.

ƒucking genius.

Pete Zicato 04-23-2011 10:51 PM

Believe it or not this is actually useful information for me. Thanks.

Clodfobble 04-24-2011 02:47 PM

Oh how funny--I thought our GI doc had made that one up himself.

I sleep nude in a 'snuggie.' I never knew that existed until commercial late at night!

Tulip 04-28-2011 12:41 AM

  I have that! ehem....never tried it though... :D

morethanpretty 04-28-2011 12:42 AM

I have yet to try one but I can think of a TON of useful situations.

Tulip 04-28-2011 12:47 AM

hehe....yeah...someone gave me some a few years back but I never tried it. Want me to send you one or two? ...I gotta check to see how many I have. Try it before buying a box. ;)

morethanpretty 04-28-2011 01:04 AM

You don't have to send it, how bout I just drive over to pick it up? Fuck work anyway...wrote my resume up and even submitted it for a job today. Might do a few others tomorrow...
