The Making of the English Working Class is one my favourite history books. Deeply problematic, as any history which adheres to a grand narrative is bound to be, but fascinating and beautifully written. It's a wonderfully human book, I think. Thompson did a brilliant job of breathing life into his subjects.

Drone footage of the aftermath of the Malibu fire. Concrete slabs with a pile of ashes that used to be a house, yet green trees between the slabs.

The trees will soon die from the heat of the fire and turn brown.

But why doesn't it look like this, it's hard to believe those houses burning up didn't generate enough heat to cook that greenery.

Let's see if we can find pics of the same place in week or so.
