This must have been such a rush to see live.

Go full screen - and possibly worth a warning for the almost strobing light in a couple of places, for the seizure prone (don't know if it would actually be a risk)

Drumline? You call *that* a drumline?

*THIS* IS A DRUMLINE.

United Airlines Drag Defense

Are ya getting all this Precious?:D

BigV 04-13-2017 08:12 PM

that's pretty funny.

United, really guys? I can hear the cries of "not my job" or "just doing what I was told", no real thinking going in... militarized airport disembarkers. And why the fuck did United stand pat on $800? I heard somewhere that the actual number was several hundred dollars higher, and I *BET* they could have found four people for some amount of money dramatically less that the cost of refunding the fares for all 70 passengers... nevermind the hit to their stock price, the hit to their already well-established reputation (United Breaks Guitars), and what I reckon is the inevitable lawsuit/settlement.

Who had decision making authority in this debacle?

Philippines. What a foreign country. Did you see those billboards? They put basically construction scaffolding on the roofs of shanties near the highway and drape fabric over them. They must have been 20 stories tall, those freestanding scaffolds.

Oh, and the fire was scary when the power lines started falling.

Ever wonder why the Irish are "that" way? Dis splain it, rough childhood. ;)

glatt 05-02-2017 08:29 AM

Maybe you heard about this yesterday, or saw a short clip. Maybe not. I think this is a pretty amazing milestone.

Yesterday, this private company launched a US government spy satellite into orbit, and the first stage went back to a landing pad and landed. It appears to have gone perfectly.

Gravdigr 05-02-2017 05:10 PM

Nifty.

BigV 05-02-2017 08:59 PM

At first I wondered why they're not using the upper part of the rocket to apply the corrective forces. Then I was reminded of the feeling I had when I balanced a broom on a fingertip. You've done that, yeah? You just keep moving the point of support a little tiny bit beyond the center of gravity, and the broom tips back to the center.

The Segway does the same thing, but in only one axis.

glatt 05-02-2017 09:03 PM

I wonder how far it is flying horizontally? I understand it landed at a different pad, and those pads are miles apart.

Back in post WW II, those daring young men in their hot rod roadsters raced at dirt tracks, like this Sultan track in WA state, across the country. We won the war, we are invincible, was the attitude of the drivers and spectators. No safety precautions whatsoever for anyone, in this short teaser for a 30 minute documentary.

fargon 05-24-2017 02:20 PM

Where is the video?

xoxoxoBruce 05-24-2017 11:06 PM

Right there in the post, what do you see?

Gravdigr 05-25-2017 03:13 PM

Apparently not the video.

I'll see if this works.

fargon 05-25-2017 09:24 PM

Nope it don't. Does everybody else get it?

xoxoxoBruce 05-25-2017 09:29 PM

I see it, what browser are you using?

Happy Monkey 05-26-2017 08:23 AM

I don't see it in Firefox or Edge, but both leave room for it, so they know something's there.

glatt 05-26-2017 09:00 AM

I get it too.

xoxoxoBruce 05-26-2017 10:59 AM

I see it in Chrome, and in IE-10 both signed in and not signed in(guest).
I suspect Google has made some youtube videos play in HTML5.

Oh wait, that's a Vimeo video.

Gravdigr 05-26-2017 12:56 PM

I see it in Firefox 51.0.1 (32 bit). Saw it in post #222, too.

Gravdigr 05-26-2017 01:00 PM

Odd.

In IE 11.0.9600.18097 I can see only the Vimeo vids. The others are a black box.

Gravdigr 05-26-2017 01:05 PM

Ima try IE, signed in.

Still see only Vimeo vids.

Takes forever and a day to load the page w/post #222 in IE, btw

Gravdigr 05-26-2017 01:07 PM

When I logged out on the IE page, I got logged out on the FF page, too. That strikes me as odd.

Most of the videos I see of hacks for easier living turn out to be crap, but this one has some clever ideas.
