Hawaii vacation

Just got back from Hawaii, we were on Oahu so no volcano but we did see the glow off in the distance when our jet took off just after sunset.

It was our first big family vacation in a long time. Our group covered 3 generations, my wife and I, my youngest son, my wife's younger son, his wife and their 5 kids so there were 10 of us in all. We stayed out on the SW side of Oahu at Ko Olina. My wife and I stayed at the Marriott and the kids had a condo next door. They stayed a week, we were there 10 days.

This was our 3rd or 4th trip there, our kids first so they did a lot of the touristy things like a luau, the Dole Plantation and a day at the ranch where they filmed Jurassic Park and some other films.

We took a deep sea fishing trip which was fun but we only caught one tuna. The captain gave us a bunch of the fish so we had several meals from it.

The Arizona was closed so we did the submarine instead.

This beach and rocky area is known as the Blowhole. There is a scene in the new Jurassic Park movie that was filmed on the small beach. It is also where the scene with Burt Lanscaster and Deberah Kerr was filmed in From Here To Eternity.

The water was nice, a bit cold when you first get in but nice.

Is that a scratch on the picture or did one of your lines catch a Seagull?

The boat had 7 large fishing reels for trolling, the ones farthest back on either side had outriggers as did the center rod, the outrigger is above the frame of the picture. That was the lines don't get easily tangled.

You mean that line I pointed to is coming down from an outrigger and not up?

The line from the center fishing rod goes up 15 feet or so to an outrigger and from there goes farther out to the ocean than the lower lines. It is held by a rubber band, if a fish strikes the rubber band breaks and they know that a fish is hooked and the set the hook soundly. All other lines are reeled in so there are no tangles.

Yeah, I know how the equipment and protocol works, it just from that picture the line looks vertical and far from the boat. Apparently an optical disillusionment.;)
