No such easy way out!

Seriously, Anbesol and cold teething rings ... and my sympathy. :comfort:

Chocolatl 12-16-2012 06:11 PM

She wants nothing to do with the teething rings, cold or otherwise. She wants only to nurse, so I fear it's going to be a loooong couple of days for me...

ZenGum 12-16-2012 06:11 PM

Teething pains can be cured by taking the infant on a long distance airplane flight.

At least, a lot of parents seem to think that. :right:

Clodfobble 12-16-2012 06:20 PM

Orajel all the way. It's still good even when it's their six-year molars coming in.

BigV 12-16-2012 11:11 PM

may I suggest that you apply the orajel directly and liberally to your nipples

Aliantha 12-17-2012 12:46 AM

Give Beans some rusks to chew on. Not only might they help with the pain, but also something new is sometimes just the right distraction.

Chocolatl 12-17-2012 04:05 AM

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. She hasn't had any solids yet so teething biscuits are out for now. She's slept through most of the night, tonight, so we'll see how much of this craziness is teething and how much of it was due to her not napping yesterday.

My SiL swore by Anbesol when the kids were teething.

jimhelm 12-17-2012 04:14 PM

lansinoh for your nipply bits. also excellent when the diaper rash is boiling lava hot.

ZenGum 12-17-2012 04:24 PM

Female advice: to do with baby.

Male advice: focused on your nipples. :ggw:

Zengum advice: sarcastic and unhelpful.

and the beat goes on...

ETA: don't worry too much. Nipples grow back. So I've heard.

Chocolatl 12-17-2012 04:36 PM

"Please... won't someone think of the boobies?"

Good lookin' out, V and Jim. Thanks.

(Whose kid was it that invented the term dowas?)

 I noticed that. Although I will say that protecting against cracked nipples is a VERY good idea. That's a pain that'll make you jump right out of your rocking chair. (When the baby latches onto a cracked nipple, I mean.)

BigV 12-17-2012 04:59 PM

to answer your question, the inch is credited with the first mention of dowas here, though he certainly learned it, not invented it. I find this citation the most memorable (text) expression here.

point of order. Zen's wrong, they don't grow back, but you *can* make another baby, so we're focusing on defending the points facing the greatest threat. I can't help it if by coincidence they're nipple-shaped.

ZenGum 12-17-2012 05:12 PM

Well, I recall getting that information from a woman whose nipple had been bitten clean off by a teething baby, and she said hers had grown back.

I didn't check, though which was careless of me. I suppose I should have demanded to inspect the scene. For epistemological purposes.

Chocolatl 12-17-2012 05:32 PM

Zen, I think that would've been a great chance to pull "pics or it didn't happen."

For those concerned, my nipples are doing well. They are neither scorched nor grooved, thankfully.
