Measles

Most people don't take them seriously, but they are.

Perhaps the numbers are accurate worldwide. But they are most certainly not accurate for the U.S., by several orders of magnitude:

Think global, act local.

Despite Trump's best efforts, foreigners will continue to visit, so eliminating Measles in the US can't really be declared complete unless it's eliminated from the world.

I heard something on the radio re measles, in the middle of the night.
I was only half awake but I think it was this report:

Quote:

Outbreaks of measles have been confirmed in five areas of England and now total more than 120 cases.

Public Health England says the cases in West Yorkshire, Cheshire and Liverpool, West Midlands, Surrey and Greater Manchester are linked to ongoing large outbreaks in Europe.

The overall risk in the UK is still low, but outbreaks can happen any time.

The MMR jab protects against measles. Experts are urging parents to immunise their children.

Anyone unsure if they are fully vaccinated should check with their GP.

PHE says cases in England appear to be stabilising.

As of 9 January, there have been 34 confirmed cases in West Yorkshire, 29 confirmed cases in Cheshire and Liverpool, 32 confirmed cases in the West Midlands, 20 confirmed cases in Surrey and 7 confirmed cases in Greater Manchester.

I'm always surprised as to how seriously the infection is taken now.
As a child it was just something that you ticked off a list of childhood infections like chicken pox. In some senses a rite of passage.
And you could always be sure of a week off school. :)
Unless, like me, you caught it in the summer holidays.
