Meet Zavier Geale and his parents. He is the first baby born in 2012.

Quote:

Zavier, who arrived nine days early weighing 3.09 kilograms, was born at 12.08am at North Shore Private Hospital, just four minutes before another baby boy who arrived at 12.12am at Manly District Hospital.

Is it just me or does the kid look a little like Yoda?

Yay for the Cellar being global!
The Aussies do get a head-start though.

Perhaps we could encourage the reporting to be the last person dying...?
Britain probably still wouldn't win, but we'd have a little more hope?

Oh, what am I saying?
We've got the Olympics this year.
Default Adonis DNA!

Our local first baby, for the second year running, is likely landing in a less than ideal situation. Child #3 for a 21 year old Mom...

You ask, What is my policy? I will say; “It is to eat, sleep, cry, and poop, by sea, land and air, with all my might and with all the strength that God can give me: to eat, sleep, cry, and poop against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is my policy.” You ask, What is my aim? I can answer with one word: Victory—victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.

That seems to happen here too.

And I think most babies look pretty much the same. That one's cute, though. He doesn't have that giant round head thing going on. I hate giant round heads. Except for Charlie Brown.

Wait.

Xavier with a Z?!

They're from Indiana originally.

I guess he is Z-avier as opposed to EX-avier.

I bet he's not really. I bet he's just the first born in a hospital in NZ. Looking at the IDL, it looks like Tonga, Samoa, and the Line Islands all might have a better shot at first baby.

More babies being born per hour in New Zealand because it's got a much higher population than those tiny islands.

Maybe. But I bet they didn't check those other places before proclaiming themselves the winnah.

That's why Samoa just changed time zones, and skipped December 30th.

Err, guys, the link is from the Sydney Morning Herald. You know, Sydney, Australia, home of the North Shore Private Hospital as well as the nearby Manly hospital, that Sydney? ;)

It's almost certain that some kiwi kid got in first. I'm less sure about the pacific islands, they have low populations and might not have that many babies born each day.

Now, recipes...
