Do y'all like Piņa Coladas?

http://cellar.org/showthread.php?t=17974

And getting caught in the rain?
If y'all aren't into yoga,
If y'all have half a brain,
If y'all like making love at midnight,
In the dunes of the cape.
I'm the clone thread y'all looked for,
Post in me, and escape.

I've had this in my head since I came in
At least now I know why

The other morning I woke up with the following going round my head:
You broke my garden
You broke my garden
You broke my garden and it made me hate you

Never did work out what I meant.

Allergy to coconut, so I've never had one.

I do like pineapples, and rum, though.

Unlike most of the rest of the world, I do like the song, though.

Bought the album because of it, back in the 70s.

And replaced it on CD.

Because I liked the rest of the album.

I probably shouldn't have admitted to that.

It's a fine song; I have no problem with Yacht Rock.

New hit song: Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Pina Colada;)

Pooka 08-29-2008 09:53 AM

Make it a melon colada and I'm in.

Shawnee123 08-29-2008 10:04 AM

Not a big fan of the pina colada song, and here is why: It ends with "hey I was gonna cheat on you. I had no idea it was you I was going to cheat with but we were fixin' to cheat on each other because we were bored...heeheee isn't it funny we were gonna boink other people and it turned out to be the same old boring person?"

When the going gets tough, the tough and bored eff the first person who likes coconut drinks and rain, or says they do in a personal ad?

;)

It was the 70s. I was just a kid then, but I understand it was a crazy ride, man.

Shawnee123 08-29-2008 12:47 PM

I don't really count that late 70's song to be part of the whole "free love" experience of the late 60's/early 70's...more like the ME mentality of the 80's.

This is one of those things, like me not liking Will Farrel, that I stand pretty much alone on...doesn't anyone else find the concept of that song kind of sad in terms of commitment and honesty? Doesn't anyone else find the tune to be kind of formula?

HungLikeJesus 08-29-2008 01:01 PM

I watched Tenebre last week. The movie was really good, except for the bad 80s music.

Trilby 08-29-2008 01:09 PM

I do NOT and never have liked pina coladas. Not enough alcohol in it.

I DID like straight-ups of: voddie, rum, gin, tequila...all the clear liquors.

but, then, I am a :drunk: so...I'd prolly drink a pina colada if I were in desperate need.
(hopefully that need will not resurface)

Shawnee123 08-29-2008 01:12 PM

I have never been able to stand coconut...even the smell will make me gag.

So I guess I don't like the drink or the song. I will have to answer, then "No, sir, I don't like Pina Coladas. I do like getting caught in the rain, and I have half a brain. However, I aspire to find a man who aspires for more than a woman with just half a brain" (another point I find offensive in the song.)

Undertoad 08-29-2008 01:29 PM

The song is a clear attempt to latch onto the zeitgeist of its time. What will become a successful pop song? Mentioning what has been said, that has not been said before, picking up the style of the day. Amongst the fresh tags in 1979's stylesheet: personal ads; pina coladas; health food; yoga; and calling your girlfriend the "old lady". The song is offensive for pandering to such things in such an obvious manner. It's a trick to get you to listen to it.

Mr Holmes had previously made his bones by writing a much more offensive "story song". It was called "Timothy". It was about cannibalism.
