December 2, 2011 My Deer Friend

Quote:

The moment was captured at the Odessa Zoo, Ukraine, and stopped visitors in their tracks as they passed by the enclosure.

As the baby deer rested in the shade during a warm summers day the domestic zoo cat approached.

After a quick hello both decided a bit of sleep was in order and the ginger moggy nestled peacefully into the side of the deer.

Photographer Vitaly Ktach snapped the special moments and said everyone was watching on in amazement.

While on a search for the photographer of the above image, I came across the below set of deer and cat pics. At first, I thought they were the same, but the deer in this second set doesn't have horns, just horn buds. Interesting how it could be the same cat in both pics.

The caption on this set of pics usually says something like this:
Quote:

A cat in Harrisburg, (Oregon or Pennsylvania or neither,) is visited daily by its dear friend, the deer.

I have seen these pics all over the place, but so far, no source has been found . . .

I'm glad people are getting more skeptical, but I fail to see why they think this can't be real.

In that sequence of pics, the cat is just doing what BIG cats do to deer.

(Not so cute, but normal behavior)

THat's not the same cat. One is a dark orange tabby, and the other is a really light tabby. Almost 'strawberry blonde.'

Eh hem ... still no recipes. Y'all are slacking and I'm telling Jim to put you on report!

I'd think not. Ukraine vs. Harrisburg...That would be one globetrotting kitteh.

Well you can't just stuff a cat in a deer. You need a couple intermediate species, like a goose for fat and a dog for fair play.

My cat, Prince Ali a Babwa aka Prince aka Baba, is also a ginger tabby. It seems like I see more of them around than I used to.

Deer/Horns/Antlers

I can't say for certainty with Ukranian deer, but the deer in the southern US have antlers, not horns. The reason that this is relevant is because horns are permanent, while antlers are shed and grow back each season. So if the only reason you may think it's not the same deer is because the antlers are bigger in the first photo, that's not a valid reason.
