Pay TV

Over 60 years ago the FCC was deciding if and how we would have Pay TV.
I remember people saying, well sure, a couple bucks a month and no commercials, why not? Silly bunnies, tricks are for adults. |
I think it passed and the only over-the-air channels ever to use it were porn.
ETA: several channels launched that were pay, but the advent of cable and its far better bandwidth made that a better venue for for-pay TV source |
I think you're right, all three methods are a pain in the ass so you'd have to want it badly. There were some pay repeaters/central towers in the boonies, but until cable and satellite came along it wasn't practical. This ruling probably did encourage the cable providers to invest in the infrastructure and get back door deals with the politicians in place.

Cable TV is a joke..... WE PAY UP THE ASS AND STILL GET SPAM ON EVERY CHANNEL!!!
I THOUGHT THE IDEA WAS PAYING FOR TV WOULD MEAN NO SPAM ADS ANYWHERE!! (Or few) |
Most people did, that's why they bought into it. In the beginning, say 30 years ago, there were fewer commercials. Of course there were less channels/content also.
|
Now CBS wants me to pay for Star Trek...
|
If they want too much, that is what piracy is for
we made the music industry stop its ridiculous behavior and we can do this again |

The rest of the series is theoretically pay per view. It is as UT said.

Didn't call anyone a liar. I said "It was free just last night...", and that's all I said.
Please don't put words that ain't there into my posts. I'll fuck myself over soon enough. I don't need any help. |
