A good man.

I lost a good friend tonight, a good man, a great Councillor and the leader of our group. At this evening's Council meeting, he seemed on good form, then as we all took drinks in the Mayor's parlour, he just fell backwards. Those nearby grabbed him as he fell and eased him to the floor. An ambulance was called and all the councillors left to allow the ambulance men space to work.

I got a phone call about half an hour ago, to say he'd passed away. Less than an hour after I last saw him, drink in hand and chatting happily.

He's a loss to his family, his friends, his colleagues and the town he has served for so many years. We'll all miss him. I will miss him. His ready wit, his boundless energy and the way he had our backs at all times. I'll miss his advice and his patience and the stories he told about growing up in Ireland. He fought the good fight his whole life. He was an example and mentor.

Rest in peace Tom.

So sorry to hear you lost such a wonderful friend, so suddenly. For him, though, it doesn't sound like too bad of a way to go, enjoying himself and surrounded by people who love and respect him.

Surrounded by friends, drink in hand, smile on face....keels over dead? He must have been a very good man, because the gods blessed him with the best of all departures.

It's always hard on those he left behind, but what a blessing for him. No sickness, suffering, hospitals, nursing homes......blessed indeed. :guinness:

I'm sorry to hear that, my thoughts are with you

When I was younger I used to say that I wanted to die in bed... shot by a jealous husband. Now I tend to think along the same lines as Woody Allen. "I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it by living forever."

DanaC, I'm so sorry for your loss. I grieve with you and with the man's family. It is certainly sad that his body is gone, but in a very real sense, his spirit continues to live on, as you and we all think of him. My deepest condolences.
