First/Favorite Car You Owned

Got this idea from the "Dwellar Not RFN" pic thread. Show us a pic (or pics) of your first/favorite car/truck/ute/motorcycle. Anybody still have their first car?

My first:

1978 Ford Fiesta

Car I should be kicked for letting get away:

1971 Pontiac GT-37

lumberjim 02-16-2010 01:33 PM

somewhere on one of my back up drives is a picture of me with a hella mullet standing next my GS850. I was teh hawtness. you'll just have to imagine it .....shouldn't be too hard.

lookout123 02-16-2010 01:41 PM

81 celica gt. had been totalled and then rebuilt from ground up. Kind of an orange-ish/reddish color.

A sampling.

TheMercenary 02-16-2010 08:24 PM

ok, I just have to say, El Camino's rocked in the day. They frigging hauled azz out of the box.

xoxoxoBruce 02-16-2010 10:22 PM

They still do, I still have the two white ones, although the one on the right is a parts car now.

skysidhe 02-16-2010 10:43 PM

My favorite?

The 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix the bank didn't sell me but I am thankful for that now under the circumstances even though it was only 50 extra dollars a month but a longer term.

The one they sold me looks just like this and it is almost paid off.

The paint and interior are perfect but neighbors cat keeps scratching it so it's not so perfect-perfect. I like my neighbors but their creature messing with it's resale value. They are not deep just obvious to me and not too numerous.

I wish the cat could jump on their huge suburban instead.:thepain:

I liked my Audi but not as much as I like this Taurus which I always thought of as Granny cars. I've owned a Volkswagen rabbit and Bonneville and some other kind of Ford, vans and I have a Ford Explorer too which is fun.

monster 02-16-2010 10:57 PM

Bruce, how many cars do you have? I remember it's your passion -or one of them....

xoxoxoBruce 02-16-2010 11:03 PM

Been giving them to good homes, I'm down to five, I think.

monster 02-16-2010 11:13 PM

Museums? Is there an xoB collection somewhere?

I take it you have them housed in all different places?

xoxoxoBruce 02-16-2010 11:17 PM

No, to people with the passion to do what I don't have the time and money... or ambition... to do. I rent places for some.

monster 02-16-2010 11:25 PM

oh, cool. That's a nice thing to do. There are so many people with the ambition and skill who don't have the money to invest.

it's fun to imagine you having a multi-car garage like a roundhouse, though...

monster 02-16-2010 11:27 PM

My dad's cousin used to do up old cars, drive them for a bit and then had to donate them to museums when he wanted to move on to the next one because he had no space to keep them and no-one could afford them (they were major antiques, driven only for fun at the weekends)

I would have, but the asshole yuppies that run this township said no... just because they could. I spent $15k fighting them, all the way to the state Superior Court and lost, but that's a looong story.

lumberjim 02-16-2010 11:42 PM

this is a great place to tell looooong stories.

monster 02-16-2010 11:47 PM

yeah, go for it, the gits. Want be to come over and call them bad names?

DucksNuts 02-17-2010 05:54 AM

Current daily driver, Chevrolet SSR, convertible truck.

Shawnee123 02-17-2010 10:29 AM

My sis-in-law made a funny comment the other day, that El Caminos are like the mullets of the car world (business in the front, party in the rear.) It fits on so many levels!

Gravdigr 02-17-2010 10:41 AM

The SSR has the coolest convertible top EVAH!! I could watch it for hours.

ETA: I also love the Camino, but only the 78 & newer body styles.

So nobody in your town has a garage? Or just no big garages? Ya can't have a "work shop" w/a big honking sliding door?

Also, is that a shortened Caddy or just a funky angle?

wolf 02-17-2010 11:37 AM

First: 1980 Datsun 210 (not a B210, a 210. Sedan. Green. And to top it off, it was a pre-production car, found out because 1980 parts would not fit it, and I had a heck of a time buying fuel filters, since they insisted my engine family did not exist in the deal shop parts book. Had to drag the parts dude out to look at the sticker under the hood more than once.)

Favorite: 1994 Eagle Talon. Emerald Green Pearlcoat.

I loved that car, but it was too small for my needs. So now I'm just cramming junk in the Sable so I can only carry one passenger, for that sense of nostalgia. I make vroom vroom noises as I pretend to go fast now, too.

jinx 02-17-2010 12:01 PM

First car: '87 Ford Escort. White. Crappy. Hated it.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3560/...cd4fe3e217.jpg

Favorite car: '90 Jetta Gli. 16v, recaro seats, bbs lace, low profiles... Fabulous car.

http://knmotorsports.com/partscars/16Vparts.jpg

Favorite suv: '06 Jeep Commander. Limited, Hemi, loaded, lifted, awesomeness.

Pete Zicato 02-17-2010 12:07 PM

My first was a POS Pinto (yes the kind that exploded if you spoke harshly to it).

My favorite (so far) is the 2009 Accord I have now. It drives like a dream. Time will tell if it's as reliable as the old one was.

I've had remarkably few cars in my life.

Pinto (~1974)
Fiesta (~1978)
Accord(1987)
Civic(1993)
Venture(2002)
Accord(2009)

All of those after 1987 overlap as we've been a two-car family.

glatt 02-17-2010 12:32 PM

I've had two cars.

1982 Buick Century - got used from my Grandfather when he stopped driving
1996 Geo Prizm - ordered from the factory new. Love this car. It just works.

nowhereman 02-17-2010 12:37 PM

1964 Corvair 700, 4 door. 4 speed.
I LOVED that car... Nader was full of ****.

Spexxvet 02-17-2010 01:19 PM

First - a who-knows-what-year used Fiat. That's for Fix It Again, Tony.

Best - Brand new 1985 Cougar

Favorite - 1967 Cougar, in the mid-eghties.

Pie 02-17-2010 01:39 PM

First car: 1990 Honda Accord LX, charcoal grey. A hand-me-down gift from my father with 114k miles on it. Drove it to 185K, sold it for $2k in 2001.
2nd / current car: 2000 Honda Accord EX (4-banger, not 6), dark green, leather interior. Currently with 140k miles. I'll probably drive it for another 5 years, or till it becomes obvious that big repair bills are coming.

I'm inheriting my late uncle's 1967 XR-7 Cougar .. love that car.

First was a 1991 Acura Legend hand me down. Favorite was a 1981 VW Rabbit convertible with no power steering, sheepskin seat covers, sand from the beach in the air intake, and a gearbox that was so loose you could barely tell when it was in gear. Bought it for $300, gave it a $200 paint job then it catastrophically died a few months later. I drove it in the rain with the top down during the summer, just a totally fun, beater car.

dmg1969 02-17-2010 04:00 PM

First car was a 1977 Camaro automatic with a straight 6 cyl. Wish I still had it.

Griff 02-17-2010 07:44 PM

First/favorite a shiney new (last model year) 1986 Jeep CJ-7 in medium blue metallic. Good times, good times... watching the winter olympics takes me back to our ski tripping.

The SSR Convertible top in action. Awesomeness.

Both stolen pics. I don't have many old pictures for some reason. First car was a '66 Chevy Biscayne. Favorite was a '72 Datsun 1200.

Pico and ME 02-18-2010 07:48 PM

First car was a maroon 1974 Buick Lesabre - I called it my highway tank, because whenever I pulled up behind someone on the Borman, they usually moved over.

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s...ckLeSabre1.jpg

Second car was a gray 1976 Toyota Corona wagon. It was my first stick and I loved it. Also, the back came in handy one summer night...:doit:

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s...copower/00.jpg

Third car was a mustard 1980 Datsun 210 - manual. I purchased it for $800 and it lasted me through my last 2 years at Purdue. By the time I graduated, I'm pretty sure it was only running on two cylinders .

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s...7Jun08x600.jpg

Fourth car was a blue 1984(?) Dodge Colt hatchback. Another stick, which I still loved. However, it was because it was a manual, that I almost killed myself. Long story. Sooooo, my next car was an automatic...

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s...1247509829.jpg

A 1994 Nissan Sentra 2dr with a spoiler. (Yes, it looked really funny on this car, but what did I know) This was my favorite car, because it was my first brand new car.

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s...r/100_0267.jpg

Now I drive a 2006 Dodge Stratus 4dr. I like it because its more roomy than the Sentra. Its nicer for longer trips.

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s...ge-stratus.jpg

zippyt 02-18-2010 08:28 PM

My first car was a 72 (?) Vw Rabbit , $750 , I Drove it cross country 2 days after I bought it All over So Cali , Mexico , Up thru the rockies Back to Memphis , then for a few years , sold it for $350 ish
Great Little car , I wish I still had it

Since then , mini vans , and currently a Mits Outlander , not a bad little ride

Oh and MANY Co Pickups , currently 08 F350 Extended cab with a tool box body with 120916 miles

TheMercenary 02-18-2010 08:39 PM

JuancoRocks 02-19-2010 01:11 AM

Not my first, actually it was the third or fourth, but was always my favorite.......I had a 52, 57, 58, and 3, 59 Chevys.......

I want one!

Juniper 02-20-2010 02:28 PM

This stolen image represents my 1st car, and my sentimental favorite. Except it wasn't a GTI, just a plain old 1984 (silver) Rabbit. I loved that thing. Finally got rid of it in 1997 when I bought a 92 Golf from my parents. Liked it, but not as much.

http://open.salon.com/files/gti_side1240528595.jpg

Now I drive this, which I also like, but I don't *love* it. Two years in and I'm already fantasizing about my next car, which I think will have to be something taller.

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...61972.1-lg.jpg

Mine also has a roof rack and running boards, which makes it look a little bit cooler. And also distinguishes it from the other umptyzillion Glacier Blue CR-Vs out there.

jinx 02-20-2010 02:45 PM

Cool. My 1984 silver rabbit was a gti. Had different wheels and a red interior.

lumberjim 02-20-2010 04:19 PM

At 14, my dad told me I could have the z if I restored it by the time i was 16

it rusted out from under itself, was full of bee hives, and I had no idea how to work on a car. I DID get it running and took a couple trips around the development before my mom sold it for $150 for parts.

http://revelationamps.com/blog/uploa...0wi-719982.jpg

that was a cool car.

when i turned 16, I inherited my dad's 1979 rabbit
http://www.cargurus.com/images/2008/.../pic-5918.jpeg

then the drain plug fell out and the motor seized on the turnpike, so I got my sister's 66 mustang that she left behind when she ran away to SD with a one armed Biker
(hated this car)
http://www.mustangdreams.com/springtime-yellow.jpg

I drove this for a winter, then fried the 3 speed tranny, and sold it for $750 from where it broke down.

My mom got a new car, and I got her 81 diesel rabbit

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...r/DSCN0495.jpg
i had that for a couple years...it was unkillable

then i got a suzuki GS 850
http://www.bikez.com/pictures/suzuki...%20Hentzel.jpg

then an 83 rabbit which i hated, then jinx's dad got me us an olds omega for $50 that was even worse ( had to keep it revved at lights...) can't find a picture that looks like it

Elspode 02-20-2010 08:34 PM

It's snowing and sleeting *again*, and all I can think of is wanting to be able to get back on my bike. Sigh.
