Is There Any Other Kind of Fatal Gunshot?
 

According to this article, there is such a thing as a non-hostile fatal gunshot. I don't know about anyone else, but *I'm* gonna be hostile if I ever get shot, no matter if the person who shot me was for me or a'gin me.

Sure, accidental is non-hostile. Lots of hunters do it to themselves. Don't know if it's considered non-hostile if they do it to each other??
My buddy took his kid deer hunting and got out in the boonies before daylight. He wanted to check his gun before they started hiking so he open the door of the truck to check it by cab light. He shot through the floor board, transmission and transfer case. His insurance paid $2400 for repairs ONLY after they verified the truck was still under warranty. :eek:

I believe that in this context "non-hostile" is the new euphemism for "friendly fire."

He got shot by his own guys. What we don't know was if they wanted to, or if it just kinda happened.

Or, in the case in the Detroit metro area....festive fire which is accidentally capping someone after shooting in the air on the 4th of July.

We have the same thing in Philly on New Years Eve.

Basically, when someone invents a confusing word rather than picking a preexisting simple-to-understand one, they are saying, "You are stupid, you stupid fucking moron."

It just pisses me off, because if someone were to say those words straight up to me, I would be greatly annoyed.

Well, I can't stop them from making up words. I just mean to say that I'm just being consistent in what annoys me.

Apparently, around New Year's, the city hires advertising trucks to drive around town with a billboard that advises people not to shoot guns on New Year's Eve. I've seen them the last 2 years.

You're supposed to shoot into the ground and pick up the casings afterward. Nobody's hurt, and no one can prove it.:D

1. Philadelphia has mostly concrete and rocks. The occasional patches of dirt you find might as well be concrete. If there is loose dirt anywhere (say a community garden) you can pretty much assume that it is underlain by rock. Big immovable rocks. Richochets make you just as dead.

2. It is established tradition that the celebratory midnight new year shot is to be fired directly overhead. Even Saddam Hussein knows this.

I wasn't aware that the tradition is specific about the type of round used. Do you use FMJ or JHP or some variant thereof?

Turns out most cases of people getting dead on New Years Eve aren't from bullets fired straight up. They're from bullets on flatter trajectories. Take your pick

1) Drunk people can't shoot straight, not even straight up

2) Holiday celebrations are a great way to cover up murder.

3) Or mischief.

Someone I know has a small cannon he uses for New Years Eve. Takes 10 gauge black powder blanks. Makes a hellacious noise, fits into tradition, and doesn't hurt anyone wearing proper hearing protection :-).
