The funny part is that kittens respond best to a hiss. Squealing or saying "ouch!" is somewhat natural when you are bitten, but it takes a moment for me to remember I'm supposed to hiss at the kitten when she starts biting.
Oh, and not that it matters, but the reason I won't have kids: hearing even the slightest scream or screech out of one and I have the overwhelming, instinctual urge to back-hand the little twerp across the room. I restrain myself.
I do ask to be seated away from small children in restaurants, when I have the option.
