It wasn't last year (unless there was another one I didn't hear about
) -- it was while I was at Penn in the early 90s.
Anyway, ashke, the short answer to your question is that many (most? all?) universities around here feel like they have to police their students' lives. I say, if anybody broke the law here (be it invasion of privacy by the photography or public lewdness by the couple), let the cops throw the book at them. If not, forget it.
