This is why I told "the little lady" that she better not plan on having a diamond ring from me. I despise the manner in which these companies obtain the diamonds. I despise how they create the rarity and therefore the price. I despise how they create this false sense that diamonds are something to be cherished forever, thus making the consumer feel that Gammy's diamond will be worth more than your own life if she's dead. Diamonds don't age, so why should it matter that this woman wore a hunk of carbon around her finger for the majority of her life?
How logical is it to have to spend many, many dollars on a chunk of the earth that does nothing but sparkle for your friends eyes? Do blind people give diamond (engagement) rings or jewelry? What does it prove other than you have disposable income? You can even get something just as nice that isn't nearly as expensive. CZ is a fraction of the price, and will fool people just the same. Why should it even matter to someone else the cost of a piece of jewelry? Does it mean that the love is cheapened? Does it mean that the marriage isn't worth as much?

I also told my chica that this is the only rock she'll get from me -

"Will you marry me?"
