Plus, his resignation will allow the Republicans to stick some random person with an "R" after his name into the race. DeLay was going to have to fight hard to retain his seat, and could easily have lost. An "R" without DeLay's baggage will have a much easier time.
It's nice that he'll be out of there, but if he manages to avoid jail time he'll just be a fat cat lobbyist or fundie demagogue or both.
