I've admired Paul Wellstone since I first heard him speak in 1990. See, I found that, on most things we did agree, or were not too far off. He truly was my guy. Its surprising how personal this is for me, and everyone I know, because its wrapped up in this hopefulness he inspired. Yesterday, work just kind of stopped and people made their way to the campaign headquarters and the capitol to pay their respects. I see a green Wellstone lawn sign (everywhere), or the old green bus, and I choke up. He was a smart, strong, and sincere man who was larger than life, or maybe just the right size. He was energy, he was accessible, and he was dedicated to making this world a better place. Damn if that unappologetic liberal couldn't dig in and make his point. Points that needed to be made. He was one of the good guys. Paul represented me and did an inspiring, excellent job. Whew. I'm so proud of him.
But what now...?
We'll see what happens to his important seat. Its time to get down to business. (Paul would give a hug and then a kick in the pants) If Mondale steps up, I know he'll win it.
