Neither. Mine's a .44. I have a first generation IMI Desert Eagle, made before the Israelis licensed the design to Magnum Research. They came in .357, .41 (God only knows why), .44, and .50 AE. I don't think they ever made one chambered for .45 ACP, did they?
You're right, though. .50 AE ammo is pretty expensive... .44 Magnum rounds are only marginally less so. That's why I handload.
