I didnt see it, but was streaming audio here. The strategy was for Mondale to dispell the notion that he's out of touch/too old, and for Coleman to press it. Fritz had to come out strong and I thought he did well. Coleman is such a yes-man and I think his inexperience with international, nationals and even statewide issues was highlighted. As mayor of Saint Paul....In Saint Paul I...blah blah. In the debate, Coleman was "Norman" and Mondale was "Mr. Vice President" I thought that worked for Mondale. There was no doubt he could handle the issues.
On the question of war with Iraq, Coleman went first and towing the Bush admin line. stressed the need to demonstrate "strength". Mondale stressed the need to work in concert with the UN and our allies as a true measure of strength, and made a point of aligning himself with Colin Powell and against the views of Cheney. At the end, Fritz got the final closing remarks, and at least via audio, he stuck the landing.
As for governor, its too close to call. The last I heard Pawlenty, the Pro life republican, was in the lead. Independent Penny is a strong candidate,(my second choice). A former democrat, he will unfortunately take many votes from DFL Roger Moe who I feel would do the best job.
