IMO Tony always has had President of Europe in his sights - I can only see that as being behind his desire to support the USA in Afghanistan and then Iraq - put him on the world leader platform and showed him as being the one closest to the world's leading (only?) superpower. Just the credentials needed at the time.

Shame it's all gone a bit pear-shaped now - no wonder he is clinging on to PM-ship for dear life!

And Gordon - save me please from someone who thinks the likes of complex solutions such as Tax Credits and PFIs are the way to steer our country. In real terms he's waited too long and is past his sell-by date. If not so much within the Labour Party, then very much so outside it (i.e with the general electorate). And achieving self-designation as King of Stealth Taxes says it all.
