Would a Western woman be allowed to teach a class without wearing a veil in Saudi Arabia?
But back to the question at hand. The woman's big mistake was NOT wearing the veil to the interview. To me, that is hypocrisy and worse. She must have encountered some adult males in the interview process and lived to tell the tale.
In a culture where children are used to seeing women wearing veils, its no biggie. But in a culture where they are not, a veiled teacher is going to seem strange at best; spooky at worst. And yes, I think a veil does interfere with communication, especially for those not used to seeing a woman wearing one.
