UT, you do what you have to do to keep the spammers down. 5 "good post" limit before new threads seems fair.

I will say that we seem to have gotten some real interesting legit posts from unregistered lurkers who just have to de-cloak to rebut some argument or the other. If there's a time-based waiting period before all posts, this will stifle their input.
