The best barbecues I ever attended was around 120km south-west of Moscow on a snowy February day.
First we had a sauna, and although I didn't roll naked in the snow afterwards, I did nip outside and rub my naked flesh with handfuls of snow before getting dressed,
Then the barbecue - large chunks of lamb roasted over hot coals on skewers and handfuls of herbs which had frozen because the ambient temperature was around -18C and chunks of bread warmed near the barbie. Those of us drinking vodka enjoyed the slightly thickened, almost oily texture of that drink at that temperature, those on beer had to stand their mugs at the edge of the brazier in order to keep the beer from freezing.
Fantastic!
