My Moms second husband "Sonny" was an African American, he did not like that term, as a WW II veteran . He put up with racism of all kinds even after working his way up to management of the maintenance crew at Leisure World El Toro. Even then racism was still present. He was a good man and as much of a dad to me as Mr. Bell was, and I miss them both.
A statement that Sonny made one time is that "most people that bad things happen to, create their own problems" truer words were never spoken.
