It's strange how some cultures anthropomorphize - is that the word? - certain animals, while others use the same animals as livestock.

We hate to think of these cultures eating cats and dogs, but they do, and above is a Peruvian gent cooking up a dish of <i>cat fritters</i> as part of a national cultural festival.

But 9-year-old Darcy Vasquez says no: nobody's going to fry up her kittens. So some cats are safe, and a new culture begins. (And thus... the Friday image!)
