I've had a theory that's gotten more and more evidence as time passes... some people simply don't possess a sense of humor. They've apparently had it beaten into them that Real Adults

ALWAYS . . . Serious
(tm) . . . because any reaction to any situation other than Complete And Total Seriousness
(tm) will result in the kids running wild and getting all kinds of crazy notions that they otherwise wouldn't come up with.
