lol Only Fools and Horses Christmas special was essential viewing for the nation's families for several years. Far from parents watching it first, three generations of a family would commonly sit to watch that together.
I was thinking about something similar the other day. I was going to post a bit about the new BBC kids' drama, Merlin. I have watched several episodes now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It occurred to me, that I would probably include a warning for American parents that british children's television contains a lot of violence. More specifically, the violence it shows will sometimes be fatal. This show is aired early saturday evening and in the last episode I watched (online, i am out of sync with the tv) the young Prince Arthur kills Sir Valiant with a sword through his gut.[*]
Now, I am working on the assumption that american kids shows wouldnt have fatal violence shown, but thats based on nothing more than my own conjecture. I'd be interested to hear an American perspective.
[*eta] violence is shown and is quite realistic, but blood is not shown and the actual killing stroke happens off camera, in this case as he is clasped in a hug; we see from the shouders up, but it is very clear what has happened.
