I, for one, am sick of all the political-correctness hooey. I would not have phrased it that way, but what's wrong with saying "feather or dot?" Are the Native Americans embarrassed to wear feathers/have ancestors who did? Are the India-Indians embarrassed that some wear dots? I'm part "Native American" myself (a term I also think is stupid anyway, because I was born here and therefore aren't I "native" anyway? Everyone's ancestors came from somewhere, even the "Native Americans" in the way, way, way distant past) and it certainly doesn't offend me.
I am sick of having to dance around whatever the currently favored term is, every time I want to describe someone. Like a black person. Can't call them black. Can't call them "African-American" because not all of them are, some are from other countries and some are just "African." I have a white friend who is African. What do you call them? "People of color?" "Dark-skinned?" I give up.
Don't call me short. Call me "vertically challenged."
