The males are larger than the females and have a dewlap, which is a flap of skin on their throat that they flare out during mating rituals and as a defense display with other males (like the lizard breakingnews posted). The females usually have a white stripe down their backs. Those are really neat pics.
By Jove! I think you are correct. Yes, I do live in SouthEastern portion of the country - Baton Rouge. These greenies are all over the place; you've described their appearance and behavior exactly. It is nice to have a name for these lizzards.
