I have Better Homes and Gardens but it doesn't help me with either. Their online magazine is better.

I usually get Time,Newsweek or US News & World Report.
Mother Jones catches my eye once in a while but I haven't bought and issue yet. I also think the NY Times would be a good one except it is so expensive.
