Most
employees in the UK pay tax PAYE - Pay As You Earn. This means that the money is taken from your wages before it even reaches your bank.
However there are obviously many, many self-employed people who still have to file tax returns. Paper returns have a deadline in October I think. Online it's January. Not only is it advertised on TV and in the papers, but for years I lived with people in the arts and entertainment industry, and they all paid their own taxes. It was a nice smug feeling to know I didn't have to panic when the dates rolled round
